Software News   Software News : Jack 1.9 - The Big Commodity Update

Jack 1.9 - The Big Commodity Update

Two updates in one week I hear you cry!? Yes, here is another update of Jack before I head off to Spain tomorrow for a well deserved week in the sun.

So What's New?

Jack 1.9 is now designed to belong in your WBStartup as this is a refinement of major features into one place, the Commodity window.

So yes... the Welcome Window has disappeared.. never liked it anyway!
And... the Quick Access bar from the file manager has been removed.

The Commodity window features all the great features both of those previous windows into one great interface.

Brill...iant!

What's more the Commodity Window features a 5-day Weather Forecast for your area.

(And there's more!) I have also added (not 1, but...) 2 Drag n Drop areas. The first accepts files and will attempt to display them for you the second accepts images or volumes and allows you to browse through in (glorious :p) full screen mode.

Also (fingers crossed) IamSonic's missing Curl error should be gone.

I hope you enjoy this new release. :)

Thanks for another update so soon! This is always nice.

You must be in Spain by this time. Enjoy your time there.

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

The Curl problem is still there.
Also I had to install AISS before I could get it to work somewhat.

Could you have a HD with a fresh installed OS4.1u3 and try to install it on that
before assuming people have all the stuff installed that is required.

Besides that I think Jack is a great effort to simplify life for Amiga users. :)

But we developers must be better to test our software before releasing it, maybe set up a number of betatesters and when they are satisfied you can release a new version.

But I must tell you again. I am really looking forward to be using Jack.

Keep up the good work.

@sicky

Use Configure Helper Applications

It's the bottom right icon.

Cheers

Hello from Spain,

I got 20 mins free internet usage so might as well use it up. :)

I will be back home in the UK saturday evening so will work through the issues asap.

As for the DH1: thing, off the top of my head this is because Jack is detecting that Push4Dock is installed. The Push4Dock beta installation as stipulated by Mason requires a dh1: partition so it can make the Downloads:, Images, Documents and Music assignments.

It searches for the push4dock.docky during the detection process and if this is present - Push4Dock is assumed to be installed . If you have since removed Push4Dock - hold down a SHIFT key whilst opening Jack.

Again, I'll take a look at everything when I return home. bfn

Okay am back Mijas, Spain. So hot, great tan.

@Toaks

Okay I've found one circumstance of when this could appear for a Non-Push4Dock User. It would appear if the user clicked on 'Downloads' in the panel of the File Manager. No other occurences found.

If the message appears somewhere else in Jack please explain clearly and also perform this test.

I have also slightly adjusted the push4dock detection which for some reason was checking sys:, please type in a shell window for me the following:

find dir sys: name push4dockdocky

Do you have any matches appearing?

If Yes, when the next version is released and you have downloaded it, please hold down a SHIFT key the first time it is run.
