hardware OS4   hardware OS4 : Experimental DRiver for UC-Logic based Graphics Tablets
posted by broadblues on 3-Nov-2011 13:34:40 (4717 reads)
I've just uploaded a driver to os4depot.net which I wrote to suport my LaPazz graphics tablet on AmigaOS4. It's based on the UC-Logic chipset.

Its tested on a UC-Logic Tablet WP5540U other tablets in the 'wizardpen' range may also work, but in this early version the values for my test tablet are hardcoded.

Look for UCLogicTablet.lha on os4epot, it's in the upload queue at the moment.

Feedback appreciated!

I've tested pressure support using art-effect demo, and it seems to be working.

Andy

Nice! I have actually considered buying one lately. Now I will have to keep an eye out for those compatible with these drivers.

Great!

Is this the one you are using http://www.dealtime.com/Logic-3-Uc-logic-3d-Graphics-5-5x4-USB-Drawing-Tablet/info

Here is a YouTube video describing the product http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_F9T4_miFUA

Looks a little different but it;s the right model number, so I'd be optimistic that it'l work.

Excellent!

I'm very much a coder but I'd still like to mess with a tablet if I ever have the money for one! Closest thing I have is my "Tabby" for my A4000. :)

Keep up the good work!

If you have $55.00 you can get a new one on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Uc-logic-Graphics-5-5x4-Drawing-Tablet/dp/B0007O3G4G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1320435270&sr=8-1

They have a used one for $50.00.

@Moxee

I would like to suggest that gesture support should be at a higher level than the driver for a tablet.

Perhaps something like a commodity?

This way any input, either via mouse or tablet, would have the same support.

Sounds good, but what if any OS4 paint software has support for using a tablet?

Would this driver allow the use of a tablet under 68K software that runs in JIT mode under OS4 such as Photogenics and ImageFX4?

Lastly does UAE under OS4 support using this driver to get Tablet support under DPaint?

Anyway sounds like a good start in getting OS4 back to being an OS for graphics creation like AmigaOS OS3.x was back in the day

As far as I can tell the 'guesture stuff' is all in the windows driver, and not anyting to do with the tablet itself, no messages are snet when clicking on the various hot spots. (Not anything different from clicking on any other spot anyway). Hot spots either need explicty enabling, by sending a command to the pad (in which I have no way to know what that command might be) or they are 'calculated' by the driver.

Things that I do intend to do:

Add support for querying pad size ( I have info from the linux driver that will enable me to work out that)

Add a switch to use either TABLET or NEWTABLET iepointercalss events. (or perhaps even both)
NEWTABLET wiould be the preffered defauklt, by the older TABLET event might give better compatability with some apps.

For example I installed TV Paint and tested with that, and it did not seem to see the pressure info, whereas Art-Effect does.

The swith will be an ENV var to start, then would be replaced by a GUI using commodity interface.

Once I've got this going I will implement pressure sensitivity into blender.
