Software News   Software News : Dragon Memory, Simple and fun memory game for aros/mos/aos4
   posted by kas1e on 6-Dec-2011 11:50:15 (6238 reads)

Dragon Memory is a simple, but fun memory game with very detailed graphics and addictive gameplay.

The game was developed with openGL and libSDL libraries, what mean that without opengl drivers (like in case with aos4 and radeonHD cards) game will not works, or, only via software renderers like Wazp3D (untested).

Read more...

AROS user who not have HW accelerated ogl drivers, will automatically switch to softpipe version of opengl (done by aros itself), which are slower, but as i386 HW are fast enough, such simple game should works fast on software rendering pretty fine.

And for morphos also working opengl are must.

All the differences which was done for amiga/amigalike oses its changing of amiga pathes (PROGDIR: and stuff),
and one small fix at the exit (adding of missing

SDL_Quit();, which looks like workorounds by linux/win32 sdls, but not by SDL on any of our oses).

Icons done as plain .png (to avoid mess with different formats). So, for aos4 you should have png icon.module installed, for morphos all come by default to support png icons, and for aros some kind of png-icon support should be used as well (if present).

Nice little game.

By the way, on AmigaOS 4.1, the game screen is too small when reaching higher levels and we cannot see the cards that are on the right of the screen. Is there any configuration to do ?

I also found it a bit unlogical firstly, but then realise "Slide me" button at bottom of screen (you can drag it to navigate over the whole game-screen). For first looks a bit strange, but when pass about 15-20 levels its start to be handy.

@kas1e

Game works with some color/texture problems and a bit slow on Sam460+RadeonHD-4650 using Wazp3D driver.

@ SinanG

At least it runs on wazp3d and works with SW rendering :)

Color and texture problems should be fixed by wazp3d itself of course (as they not happens on other implementations). If you have time, you can try to write to Allain who works on wazp3d, and point out on the problems.

When I read DRAGON my first thought for some reason landed on Skyrim by Bethesda, otherwords the latest of the Elder scrolls range. That is until I read the rest of the sentence.

Haha, I dont even think the x1000 would be playing that game anytime soon, if it even can in future with the specifications needed.

Good to see memory game happening, we all know sharp minds is a good thing.

Cheers

Fun game. Level 14 got a bit tricky to make good time for this guy. My 8 year old son put me to shame. :)

@kas1e

It runs nicely on my A1XE here. Certainly the best presented memory game I've seen.

Hello
For Wazp3D:
start Wazp3D-Prefs

disable "+Hack RGB/RGBA/ARGB texs" ==> the problem
set "Perspective|No (fast) " =to speed up
set "Force IndirectMode" =to speed up
set "+Smooth Textures" =nicer

close Wazp3D-Prefs
start dragon it will works perfectly now

@Alain
Cool :)

Btw, a bit out of topic, but did wazp3d already works with HW accelerated mesa on AROS ? I remember you have some problems with bitmaps some weeks ago ?

Hello Kas1e

Yes Wazp3D works with HW accelerated mesa on AROS
The problem with bitmap is still here : Aros-Mesa cant render in a particular bitmap like Warp3D but only in a window (in fact it draw in a gallium-back-buffer then copy it to the window bitmap)

1) Wazp3D "renderer:hard" I let mesa draw then i hack window->bitmap to warp3d->bitmap so back buffer is copied to my bitmap
badly the display is offseted at window position (why?)

2)Wazp3D "renderer:hard overlay" like for WinUAE i create a borderless window upside the current 3d-prog window and draw inside

===> not so perfect yet : but I have no solution until Mesa-Aros will support to render in a particular bitmap (like the Amiga way...)

An other solution may be to directly do Wazp3D->Gallium but it is a few to difficult for me

Dear Alain

With your recommended settings Dragon Memory works with nice graphics on Sam460+RadeonHD.

I was also able to run Supertuxkart with nice graphics but very slow (like 5 fps :)

EDIT:
I also tested following 3D games:

- UFO.AI. works slowly.
- Aquaria doesn't pass the intro screen very slow
- Freespace2 menus work but very slow.. During the game only 10% percent of the screen is displayed :)
