Amigaworld.net News   Amigaworld.net News : AmigaWorld.Net hacked!
   posted by zerohero on 11-Jan-2012 1:15:49 (14218 reads)
Dear users,

We are sorry to admit it but it seems AmigaWorld.Net was hacked today. Most likely it wasn't our server the hacker got the passwords from, but we have no idea of knowing so far. We suggest everyone changes their password as quickly as possible.

We're sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Regards,
AmigaWorld.Net staff

If hackers really have compromised AW, then there is no point in changing the password untell you figured out how they came in and then fixed..

So far it looks to me that they have cracked Trevors login and I bet he used the same on all Amiga sites.

But untell you figure out whats happening we don't really know.

Change your password OFTEN then... just in case it DOES do any good.

Later, if and when the intrusion is figured out, you can cease changing your password every time you login.

Is this the result of that "hoax" news I heard about of A-EON closing shop?

Unfortunately it seems pretty clear that it is someone from within the community since they have knowledge about who is who , around here.

Sad individuals.

@Yssing
That is why passwords shouldn't be "amiga" or "amiga1200" :)

Our passwords are saved as MD5...

There is nothing that suggests that the site has been hacked in any way, and since the actual user password was gotten from somewhere, our suspicion is that the passwords were retrieved from another Amiga site which does not do that (store the passwords encrypted), we have no idea from what site though, nor do we have any proof of any of this, this could simply have been guesswork.

To be on the safe-side however, we are recommending that users change their passwords, especially if they re-use the same password on many Amiga sites (which in general is a bad idea). Password complexity is a whole other discussion.

@realize, olaf

I by some reasson sure, if we do some brootforce on amiga sites on all the accs, we will have plenty of "amiga", "amiga1200","cd32", "motorola", "onlyamigamakeitpossible", "123456", names in back order, letters changed on the digits, and all the stuff :) Just what the interest to do it and loose time on that ..

Seems so, since its removed from all Amiga boards, and thankfully, is a hoax.

I do not know why people waste time by doing this kind of "jokes". (besides it is a crime but when noone know where the hacker got the password nobody can do anything)
