hardware OS4   hardware OS4 : MicroA1 (AmigaOne Lite) boots Linux with 1066MHz G4 CPU
   posted by MikeB on 24-Oct-2003 9:02:54 (7862 reads)
Tomorrow the 25th of October the O.A.S.E. show will take place in Graz, Austria:

"The screenshots show it all. The AmigaOne Lite, now renamed to "MicroA1", arrived yesterday and we could successfully boot Linux on the 1.066MHz G4 driven board.

We have also several news on the OS4: The AmigaOne XE now runs a Radeon 7000 (and 7500) Picass96 driver and now also runs the 3com onboard ethernet and a SoundBlaster Live! driver with a native AmigaOS 4.0 version of AHI.

We are pushing hard to get OS 4.0 running on the MicroA1 until Saturday."

This news is just too good! I was wondering when they'd get the sound working with AHI.

Excellent. Good luck with getting the MicroA1 running OS4.

Seems odd to drop "Amiga" from the name.

@ Orgin

I don't think that's the case, but you can of course ask Alan about this.

BTW most excellent news!

@Björn,

MicroA1 - Micro Amiga One.

Sounds ok to me. I prefer the "Micro" bit to that of "Lite".

Mmmmmmm!
/me wants one!

Who really cares what the board is called?
I wouldn't normally expect a motherboard to actually have a name (usually only some kind of coded reference number) - a system on the other hand...

I'd love to see these retrofitted into the old console-style cases, but I think that there would be a far larger market for a 20cm square "handheld" device.
The whole device could probably end up being smaller than a medium-sized reference book - nice and portable!
And if you could use some kind of stylus on it, too - w00t!

@Bean

I know what the "A" stands for/symbolises. But not spelling it out is odd.

I wrote that message with this in mind.

@MikeB

Seems a bit of a waste to ask such a simple question. Better ask him some useful questions instead.

@ Orgin

OK, but if you have some really interesting questions then please be quick about asking them as we want to have the list ready for upcoming Monday.

Fantastic! A /MicroA1 is the miggy for me!

They have to tie this up into a nice case though simply for brand recognition. It has to be easily identifiable

But still - I want one of these boards

@Bobsonsirjonny.

They probably won't make their own cases nor buy from a case maker and resell it in a finished package.

But put that down as a question for Alan if you want.

I don't know Orgin, a while back, somebody asked that question to Alan (don't remember if it was a live broadcast or irc) and he said they were looking into something like that. Of course, plans can and do change, but it is a possibility.

@Herewegoagain

Which is why a question could be useful. If bobson wants to ask it that is.

Edit: Which he already did, so TIPPEX!!
