posted by MikeB on 4-Nov-2003 21:18:11 (5727 reads)
Alan Redhouse presented Eyetech's plans at a large Chinese computer conference again last September, but this time in Beijing instead of in Taipei. He also demonstrated AmigaOS4 with the AmigaOne within the exhibition area. Here are some pictures from this event. Pictures with Alan Redhouse: [1, 2, 3, 4].

Here is a translated version of a related news article as published by the Guangming Daily .

Nice to see Alan present his vision to a audience of that kind. Something else than the "usual" Amiga meetings (though they are important aswell

Considering the Chinese government is seriously looking for alternative platform solutions, IMO a nice goal would be to have a small elegant Amiga computer in over 400 million Chinese households by the end of the decade!

China alone could make the Amiga computer the global market leader!

Judging from the size of the bag, it looks like a CD32 mainboard or possibly MicroA1/Teron mini (why don't you simply name it AmigaOne mini, Alan )

Thats not a vaio..

Its his lunchbox for the sandwiches ...the bag is what the sarnies are wrapped in ( like cling-film)

Nice to see Alan Redhouse talking to such a large and important crowd. He always seems to have a very straightforward, down-to-earth and honest approach to things, so I'm pretty sure he got the message across. I hope he has the success he deserves.

Actually if you look at pics 3 & 4 You'll see that it was really a Karoke competition, not a conference at all. The Triffid was a disguised water pistol for squirting hecklers.

IMO that is the best possible use for a VIAO - useless piece of fish (~anagram). Good job I took a backup of the presentation in PDF format on a flash stick.

@Alan:

This is very exciting news. I remember you talking about going to China to talk about
using the A1 as a smaller, faster yet lower power consumption server than is currently available. This
was before the SARS scare.

Was this meeting **THAT** meeting or a follow on meeting? Either way it sounds like a
great opportunity for Eyetech and the Amiga!

Bob C.

Ohh, I can READ some of those screenshots. (Hanzi is such an eloquent, written language.) Yeah, I'd like to get 400 million chinamen using Amigas....

Then I could get MINE with Simplified/Tradtional character support!!!

China's Dragon CPU is currently running at around 260 Mhz. Most modern OSes wouldn't do well running with such specifications, but I believe AmigaOS could manage pretty well.

Maybe a good AmigaOS4 demo running with a 233 Mhz Cyberstorm PPC could raise a few Chinese eyebrows.
