Maybe it is too late for me, I still don´t get it. PCI (or PCIe) is also supported in AmigaOS (like Zorro). |
How? The Amiga o.s. only supported the Autoconfig protocol, so only Zorro cards (which implement it to let their resources to be seen and correctly installed and initialized by the o.s.). |

But the IBM PC is not Intel's platform, despite using their CPU architecture, right ? _________________ Best way to enjoy Amiga is without the community |

By early 1990s "IBM PC" was less IBM and more and more Intel platform. |

No, it was an IBM's Platform, until the clones made the "IBM compatibility" just a legacy label. After that, the PC "standard" evolved independently, and many companies introduced different Technologies.
PCI was introduced by Intel, but there was also the famous "VESA local bus" (I don't remember the inventor now, sorry). |

I see you use "Amiga o.s.", but I never understood your semantics. AmigaOS is AmigaOS - be it 1.x, 2.x, 3.x or 4.x. Why impose such artificial version limit? |

Googled it and.. well.. it was VESA
Always called it the Very long bus, the VLB connector looks allot like PCI now that I take a look at it again.
Another one that came up was EISA by "the gang of nine" to dwarf IBM's Micro Channel architecture. _________________ Best way to enjoy Amiga is without the community |

Because up to the Commodore bankrupt there never existed the AmigaOS label. The o.s was called "the Amiga o.s.", or Workbench (which is the more common name used by people) or even Kickstart.
The AmigaOS label was a new thing introduced later, by successive owners of the Commodore/Amiga assets. |

Yes. IBM tried to close again its PCs introducing some proprietary Technologies, like the MCI-Micro Channel Interface, the PS/2, and the MCGA & VGA. But at end it failed, because the clone market was too much wide. |

My research of old manuals, magazines and usenet discussion shows rising usage of "Amiga OS" (even in Commodore marketing materials in Germany) in late 80s / early 90s, never saw "the Amiga o.s.", except your posts. |

I've found this one example from .INFO magazine 1991 which called it AmigaOS
http://www.blazemonger.com/articles/unix1.html
Of course, it isn't official Last edited by Trewq on 01-May-2015 at 10:49 PM.

Have u tried to download the PI version. ? (it is more like a bad joke!)
The Raspberry Pi Version is only available for registered users. To get registered you need to qualify yourself with one of the following options: 1. Buy something from ares-shop.de or prove that you bought a AresOne from somewhere else 2. USE our sd-card service on ebay 3. Donate at east 10 US € to any AROS related bounty on www.power2people.org or prove that you did already. 4. Or buy a ARES ArmedOne
:) |
You care enough to keep asking questions about a new Amiga, but donating 10 measly dollars to help AROS development is unthinkable and makes it a bad joke? I don't understand that.
Also remember that Aeros is not AROS itself - it's an AROS distro that makes use of Linux to run on the Pi. The native Raspberry Pi port of AROS is still in development and will, of course, be open-source. So you can enjoy their hard work and not give them one penny for it if that really makes you happy!

As you can see, it calls the Amiga operating system (long version). |
Yes, Amiga Operating System (or Amiga operating system), Amiga OS and less frequently even AmigaOS are common - but NO "Amiga o. s.".

Can you provide some links to the material you cited? |
For start comp.sys.amiga (and derivatives) - you may find these in Google groups - just search eg. ""Amiga OS" 2.0"

| @ Everyone:
This applies not only to this thread, but all threads.
QUIT THE NAME CALLING.
Debate, disagree, whinge, whine and sulk away, but stop with the personal attacks. I've just wiped some ARs out because both sides seem to be at it, but the next ones will be actioned.

| I think Natami was the most interesting project ever after the Phase5 accelerator cards. It even aroused interest of all the former Amiga users around here where I live unlike any of the so-called NG stuff. Too bad nothing happened... _________________ Using: One Commodore C64 - One Commodore Amiga 500 - One Commodore Amiga 1200 with BVision and Blizzard 68060 with PPC coprocessor running Amiga DOS - One Hellbillylitre Amigatwox86x64x6000x running Windows7 |
