WHDload desperate help needed

I'm at my wits end with WHDload. I cannot get it to work...

Every set of instructions I find on the web are rubbish! ie. Make assumption about knowledge of the user and are too general.... I'm hoping Amigworlers are more articulate and accurate!

I've an A1200 and I have downloaded WHDLoad and unpacked it. From what I see on the web I THINK i have done tjhe right thing - I have WHDload in my DH0:C directory along with RAWdic and a few other files.

WHDload came with a file called 'install' (also now in C) but when I run this it says "Unable to open your tool installer" - Should I even be clicking this? Different sites give mixed messages.

I came to the conclusion I had everything where I needed it and prehaps I should just be running the game installers, I have downloaded Lemmings/Lemming installer (I have the original) but there is no indication where to 'put' this install file. Wherever I run this from I just get ""Unable to open your tool installer"...?

I'm tearing my hair out? Can anyone help me pleeease? A shiny penny and a warm feeling for any good citizens!*

A.

@plus4

Check where installer is located

In other words, the path to installer may be incorrect.
I've seen this in classic software before.

Some more good whdload info:
Problem installing WHDLoad

According to DOPUS : The path to the Installer is DH0:C/Install

Thanks for replying!

Progress:

I see LOADS of other having the same issues when I google so hopefull people can learn from my experiances:

I got the install to work for WHDload:

This is the WHDload page - ONLY the 1249215 Bytes version works...

There are two versions of the WHDLoad package. The USR package contains the documentation and all programs which are required to use WHDLoad installs. The DEV package contains all files from the USR package plus addtional programs, sources and support files. The DEV package is the right choice if you want to create installs for yourself.
Both packages are provided in LhA and LZX format.

WHDLoad_usr_small.lha

633783 Bytes

created at 30.12.2009

WHDLoad_usr.lha

1249215 Bytes

created at 5.2.2009

WHDLoad_dev.lha

2152039 Bytes

created at 5.2.2009

WHDLoad_16.9_usr.lzx

930907 Bytes

created at 5.2.2009

WHDLoad_16.9_dev.lzx

1697587 Bytes

created at 5.2.2009

But I do not know how to get Lemming to work :(

Please assist if you know how to get the games working....

A.

install is not installer, the link that number6 posted has a direct link to installer on aminet

WHDLoad_usr.lha is the one to use

have you installed skick346.lha?

once installed have you put copies of the rom files with the .rtb files?

try a game from whdownload to see if it works, as if it does then whdload is installed correctly

personally i use classicwb with whdownload games, skips any hassle

Hello mate,

I have not installed SKick,

Accoring to Aminet it is a program capable of soft-kicking any kickstart release
(1.2-1.3-2.0-3.0-3.1) into a 2.0 ROMed Amiga system. It does relocation
and/or patches of kickstart images. Many relocation/patch tables
included in the archive. Preferred use is on machines without
MMU or for use with WHDLoad (.RTB files). This is the release 3.46.

I did not realise I needed this.... My Amiga is currently running KickStart Version 39.106 & Workbench 40.42...

Does this mean I need to run Skick and do I need to do this before I use WHDload?

A.

What you need to grab an image of your rom:

http://aminet.net/search?query=grabkick

The resulting file should be placed in SYS:Devs/Kickstarts

We're just not sure how far along you are with this, so forgive if we're repeatng something you have already done.

Honestly, I've never heard of "skick" being needed for WHDLoad, but if the requirement has changed, I'm sure someone will let us know.

whdload uses rom images, it doesnt use the rom in the A1200.

skick has lots of .rtb files that are used with the corresponding rom image to get the games to work, you dont need skick itself, just all the .rtb files. if you install it though, it places the .rtb files in the correct place for you which IIRC is sys:kickstarts/

@Derfs

ok. I said SYS:devs/kickstarts, which is what I see from an earlier classic install of mine, which I have archived on my HD.

Has it changed?

I'm doing this from memory, since I'm on a Micro atm.

It's not required but you need the RTB-files from the archive to put in Devs:Kickstarts together with the kickroms.

I'm confused again!

This looks like it will take an image of MY rom but not a 2.0 rom. I do have an image of a 2.0 rom if needed.

I have managed to get WHDload installed now and redownloaded Lemmings from the site you gave me - I get the WHLoad registration message, then the message to say Lemmings is loading, press F10 to quit etc etc.

But then DOS-Error #205 (Object not found) on loading "Lemmings1disk.slave"

I feel we are getting there slowly - I can't believe this can be so hard!

Can we start over then?

Exactly. You can grab an image of a 2.0 rom and use it as well. Or you can use the one you say you already have. Copy it as well to SYS:devs/kickstarts.

THEN....
Go download that skick file and add the corresponding .rtb and .pat files that match the ROMs you are going to be using. They -also- go in SYS:devs/kickstarts.

The main program is most definately the archive WHDLoad_usr. Just use the current one.

Next and finally, you need a file for each game. afaik, they can be installed anywhere, because since WHDLoad and support files are installed to c:, it won't have any trouble finding them.
For Lemmings:
http://www.whdload.de/games/L.html

Each game like this will have it's own install (just checked)

After that, I believe you just click on the icon for the game.
If I'm wrong anyone, please correct me.

that error message is because it cant find the correct rom file, follow what number6 has posted

I would recommend to get Installer43 first http://aminet.net/util/misc/Installer-43_3.lha (extract and copy the installer to c: )

Then get a 3.1 and a 1.3 kickstart ROM and rename them according to the manual of WHDLoad (kick40068.A1200.ROM and kick34005.A500.ROM IIRC) and and copy them to Devs:Kickstarts

Then get the skickarchive from aminet http://aminet.net/util/boot/skick346.lha and then copy the matching RTB-files for the roms you put in Devs:kickstarts (kick40068.A1200.RTB and kick34005.A500.RTB)

If you still have problems running the games try the tooltypes NOMMU and NOAUTOVEC

@sundown: Don't know what they are for but you don't need them.

again if i remember correctly only the .RTB files are used for WHDload, so i dont think you need the others.

if only i had my A1200 setup here, heh
