Congrats on the new AI Partnership (Read 1880 times) | [There wasn't an official category that fit this, so here goes..]
Greetings
I see that Amiga, Inc has made a partnership with some other tech company. Good for them!
Reading the press release, it seems that Amiga have a new VP of marketing. Also good for them. But, I have a few questions. I.) (you all knew I'd ask this being who I am and all..) How are they paying this guy? And 2.) What's the deal with how hard it is to get a license for OS 4 on any hardware that isn't Eyetech?
Assuming their erstwhile marketing guru is for real, does this mean Amiga are raking in enough bucks to at least BEGIN to make good on their debts-you know, the payroll for the employees whose basic research, programming, hacking and testing skills made it possible for them to get where they are, wherever that may be..?
It looks to me like Amiga continue in their vein of snubbing the Classic people with one hand, and continue to flog their DE thing with the other. The Classic people are the ONLY people who have ever given Amiga any real revenue after late 90s VC guys. They are the only ones left who seem to care enough about the Name to soldier on. No one's ever heard of Aheadendware. No one's ever heard of Riverdeep. No one cares about DE, why should they? There's no market potential there-I'd rather pour my skills into programming Palm apps so some real company making real money can hire me.
Second, why can no one seem to get a license for OS 4? Does Amiga not realize that no hardware vendor NEEDs Amiga OS 4 (or, lets face it, anything whatsoever having to do with Amiga these days.. ) but Amiga and Hyperion both DESPERATELY NEED hardware to run on. Why is Troika any less deserving than Eyetech? I've seen Eyetech/Ascena's first, failed attempt to make a new Amiga-doesn't Troika deserve the same benefit of the doubt? And what about Elbox, and the Powervixen guys? How come I can't just start up TronCo Electronics and, using my freely licensed Pegasos II knockoff, start making OS 4 boxes to sell? No licensees can even seem to get a hold of Amiga personnel. Which isn't surprising given their mail box is in New York and their company's in San Francisco.
There is still a passionate lot who are trying to get OS 4 going-you guys make Mac geeks look like quitters! Amiga, other than providing this website (presumably..) seems to be giving you no love whatsoever. Classic isn't dead or there'd be no OS 4. At least there's Hyperion.
The sooner Amiga grasps the concept that it's DEad Jim, and puts said new marketing guru to work marketing their cool little niche OS 4 on any vendor's hardware who'll have it (and lets face it, the port should pretty much be free to the vendor for simply taking the chance..) the sooner they start taking in enough real coin to begin paying off their debts. - Tronman
