@adrianebrown

First off, amiVNC is a server, you need a viewer such as vva. look here http://dspach.free.fr/amiga/vva/index.html

Just install realvnc on the pc using the installer and set it to install itself as a service.

Set up vva in its tooltypes - the main one is the host=
enter the IP address of the xp machine on your network. Then play with the other tooltypes.

@adrianebrown

Do you have a firewall running on the XP machine?

Can you ping the XP machine from the A1?
Open a shell and type: ping 192.168.0.1

Do you get any error messages?
What was the exact VVA client you tried to use?

@adrianebrown

double check the default port used in both server and client. I've already connected from Amiga VNC client to a Windows RealVNC server without any problem.

Do you have an error message ? If yes what does it say ?

at last a working (ish) VNC server for os4 :)...thanks Stéphane

@jiyong

i had the same probs as you with VNC4....you can either use the older viewer version Stéphane posted and it will look ok (amivnc server seems to crash if its on anything other than 1024x768 16bit though) or use -a when running the vncserver on os4 and it wont look as good but the colours will at least be right.

only prob i have now is with AmiVNC crashing when i ctrl-c it i get grimreaper and recoverable alearts...or if i close the VNC viewer on the PC it crashes the server and locks up os4 :(

Stéphane are you working on any updates for AmiVNC....id be happy to give bug reports or grimreapers crash dumps if it helps?

@Leki

The colours are not really bugging me, but I would prefer the right colours.

Sadly I have a new problem now. I think it started when I got the latest updates for XP. AmiVNC no longer works with the VNC 4 client on my XP installation. Strangely it is still working from my W2K installation.

So now I have to connect from my XP to the W2K and connect from there to the A1.

@Leki

Hi,

I've uploaded AmiVNC 2.0.1 on os4depot.

This version relies on libauto's auto open/close for libs.

Please try & see if that helps for the current problems (mainy, crash on exit).

Regards,

Hello all,

This is just to sum it up.
VNC server is available here.
VNC client is here.

I tried AmiVNC again and it works. The only things that could be improved are:
- sometimes AmiVNC handler crashes (even with 2.0.1)
- when running with "-a" colors are correct (but only a few colors are displayed like if the screen was in 8 bits or less)
- without "-a", colors are mixed up like with an endianess problem
- it works only with the VNC client supplied by sg2, other clients exit immediately after the screen loading phase
- more speed ? Even on a LAN, it's slow.

@elwood

Same here, without -a switch I get wrong colours.

BTW, I have not seen a single comment about a very good Amiga VNC client:

TwinVNC

It's very fast and reliable, I can use from my A1 the PC at work at a very good speed -I use RealVNC4 as server on the PC side-.

Saluditos,

Ferrán.

@Ferry

Don't forget some advertising there:

http://www.os4depot.net/index.php?function=showfile&file=network/misc/twinvnc_gui.lha

It will make your life easier when using the great TwinVNC client.

I have just found that I cannot click on links in IBrowse when using my A1 through VNC from a PC (AmiVNC on A1, RealVNC Viewer on PC). Can anyone confirm? I have tested it with AW pages, not yet in other web sites.

The good news are that right mouse button works fine, so I can use the "Open link" option.

Saluditos,

Ferran.

@Ferry

Please supply the specific links you refer to that are not working. A couple will do.
This was a problem in the past, and not specific to VNC.
Originally I bypassed this problem by hand typing my links into AW and double checking
them in preview.

Best Wishes,

Guess what? I found that is specific not to VNC nor AW, but to IBrowse! I have just tried AWeb (I'm writing this post from it), and links do work, while the same links are not working from IB.

Frankly, that is where I was leading. I can confirm this absolutely positively.
If you can get someone to "hand enter" the same broken links and test with
"preview" it might be of help to the members here.

Please mention your version of IBrowse and whether it is demo as well.
Then someone can test another version of IBrowse and compare the results.

Best Wishes,

Has anyone noticed that 16-bit modes doesn't work anymore with OS4 upd3?

Otherwise I have no problems, except slow speed, which is why I really would like 16-bit modes to work. sg2 seems to have disappeared though... haven't been able to reach him for a month.

Links are not broken, since you can open them with contextual menu, right-clicking on them and selecting "Open link..." option, no need to enter them by hand. Also, I have just found that not a single link works left-clicking on it with IB-through-VNC, no matter what page you try.

My version of IB is 2.3reg.

Saluditos,

Ferrán.
