So did I, christmas 2004 I bought my µA1 with AmigaOS 4.0 Developer Prerelease. Still got it today and it's working fine with a new Noctua CPU fan and 1GB Ram. I wish there was a hacky kinda way to replace gfx ram chips for 128MB or 256MB chips.
But it's still a very nice machine, most stable of the SE, XE, µA1 family.
EDIT: To all of you that has an A1XE with original thermalpad, aluminium heatsink and fan thats louder than Slayer! Change it now! I did that with my XE and went from a CPU temp of 75º celsius to 35º celsius. Copper heatsink with real thermal grease and a Noctua fan will give a silent and much cooler CPU ---> Rock Steady AmigaOS. Last edited by khayoz on 09-Sep-2022 at 12:45 AM.

I guess only few of us guessed nearly 20 years ago that those NG systems of that days would still be in use today. I mean when I got my Pegasos in 2003 I retired my then 18 years old Frankenamiga 1200PPC/BVIsion/InfinityZII - I felt that such on old machine was just not reliable... My Pegasos is now 19 years old - and still running (albeit a G5 has taken over the everyday job).
The years somehow rushed through in a breeze...
Glad to hear you stil enjoy. Keep us updated!

| Update...
My system has been acting up a bit lately. Sometimes I hear a click and hard drive appears to go to sleep. System freezes if I try to open anything. Recovers ok after reset.
Yesterday, I powered up my MicroA1 and it would not boot at all, not from hard drive and not from CD. Could not even get U-Boot screen.
Replaced dead battery and reset UBOOT settings to factory settings.
SFS was reporting errors on the system partition, so I reinstalled OS4.
Later, I discovered that the rear USB ports had been re-enabled again somehow, maybe going back to factory settings. Anyways ... I disabled rear USB ports and system appears to be stable again.
Working ok again now, and I restored files from my backup.
My system is very old (2004) and I need to find a replacement IDE/PATA hard drive.

You may be better off with an SSD and a SATA-PATA adapter.
Speedwise it makes little difference on OS4, but it might be a bit more reliable.

Sounds like my story too :) I bought a complete Pegasos setup with MorphOS for about 300e in 2004, and my monster A1200/060/128MB/SCSI (HDs, DAT, CDRW)/Voodoo3/CV64-3D/Delfina Lite/MFC3/100Mbps/USB/TV-card/etc, which started to be quite flakey and underpowered, retired immediately. I've been a happy NG user for almost 20 years now... several years more than I did use classic Amigas as my main setup! It's pretty incredible and I'm grateful that I've been able to continue to use an Amiga-like setup (with my beloved Amiga programs) as my primary computer this long, and nothing seems to stop that in the future either._________________ - The wiki based MorphOS Library - Your starting point for MorphOS - Software made by jPV^RNO |

I bought cheap mac mini in 2009. I try Morphos on it. I found this is Amiga that I always wanted. It was fast, with native os, 68k software run faster on it than on winuae. I regret I don't buy Amiga NG earlier.

Good one redfox - I couldn't agree more with your thank you and I like your rundown of computer and software etc

Thank you, Redfox. Your points on the evolution of computers were insightful. The transition from mainframes to personal computing was indeed a pivotal moment in technology history. It's fascinating how this shift democratized information and reshaped society at large. I appreciate your thought-provoking analysis! |

@ShInKurO
Yes. I also tried and did with Triton. In decreasing difficulty, I put MUI/Triton/AWNPipe. I switched to AWNPipe long ago.
Bye, TMTisFree |
@ShInKurO: Thanks for sharing your experience! It's interesting that you transitioned from Triton, similar to mine with MUI/Triton/AWNPipe. I appreciate the insight into using AWNPipe and wish you continued success on Linux. -TMTisFree |

| Update...
On February 1, 2024, I performed a clean install of AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition, followed by update 1, the original version of update 2 and hotfix for update 2.
All seemed to be working ok.
Starting on February 3, 2024, I have been experiencing DSI errors when launching MultiView to view plain text files.
Only text files. Pictures and amigaguide files are ok.
The DSI error shows locale.library ...
I tried many things, including older versions of MultiView, older versions of locale.library, older versions of datatypes.
Some other programs seemed to be triggers, such as NotePad and certain games.
I've been working on this issue for a year and three months ...
---
After exhausting all the possibilities I could think of, I finally decided to install OS4 on a different partition.
---
On May 29, 2025 I disabled my DH0: partition and created a vanilla install on my DH4: partition ...
Quick format, installed AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition from CD
I played many games, viewed many text files, editted text files. No issues with MultiView or NotePad.
On May 30, I proceeded with Update 1 ...
I played many games, viewed many text files, editted text files. No issues with MultiView or NotePad.
On May 30, about 2 pm, I proceeded with Update 2 ...
This time I used the already fixed version of Update 2 rather than the less than perfect original version of update 2 and hotfix.
I gradually added AmiSSL 5.20 and further updates via AmiUpdate.
I played many games, viewed many text files, editted text files. No issues with MultiView or NotePad.
Over the next few days I gradually added my ARexx scripts and libraries.
No issues with MultiView or NotePad and no MultiView DSI errors.
---
On June 6, 2025 I performed a clean install on my "real" OS4 partition DH0: following the same proceedure as above ...
quick format, installed AmigaOS 4.1 FE from CD, update 1 and update 2,
then AmiSSL and other updates via AmiUpdate.
No issues with MultiView or NotePad.
I have no explanation for what caused the problems with MultiView, perhaps there was an error in my old user-startup file.
I built the new user-startup file from scratch and added only the necessities.
