You could have a second computer to serve as a hard reset method. If the migaOne is totally unresponsive then send a hard reset command to this second machine, which might have a parallel-port controlled relay on the AmigaOne's reset header.... |
How about this? (http://www.markertek.com/Product.asp?cat=CABLESCONN&subcat=&prodClass=POWERCON&search=0&off=0&baseItem=IBOOT) From the product description: "Just point your browser to iBoot's IP address, enter the Password and you're one click away from power ON, OFF or a timed Reboot of your equipment."

| Just to add my experience:
I operated my A1 over VNC last summer when I was working in another city. I have 10Mb LAN here and I had 8/1Mbit ADSL on the other end and I made a special screenmode just slightly smaller than 1024x768 in 16bit to speed it up, but it was just waaay too slow to do anything but check my mail over...
Developing is not an option since it's impossile to scroll in a text editor. Took more than 10 seconds everytime I scrolled text ever so slightly.
Sure, writing locally, transfer via FTP and only compile on the remote A1 would perhaps be an option, but I wouldn't do it....
About lockups. Complete machine freeze could I do nothing about (although I also though about some hardware ping device). Software-wise I did reboot the A1 a few times remotely without problems. I had AmiVNC in WBStartUp.
I also have a program that checks the net periodically and if some well known servers stops responding I know eth3com has crapped in the closed and the program will then take a screeshot (so I can see what went wrong) and then reboot the machine hoping the net will reappear after the reboot. This solution has worked very well since say one with my A1. I had a similar program on my A1200 as well that took Miami off- and online instead of rebooting. _________________ - Don't get fooled by my avatar, I'm not like that (anymore, mostly... maybe only sometimes) > Amiga Classic and OS4 developer for OnyxSoft. |

@spotUP
I have used VNC to develop on my A1 from my laptop in another room of the house (ugh -dreadful sentence). Only problem was having to go back into the office if I caused a severe crash with my dodgy programming and couldn't reset the A1 over VNC.

Using VNC allowed remote development, but it had limitations like needing physical access for significant system issues. |
