| After reading through other recent posts I'm not exactly sure if I'm having the same problems as they are. Here I have a freshly set-up A1-C with both updates installed. The network cable is verified in place which is connected to a router/switch and no matter what config (static ip/ dhcp) I try in the internet prefs, either the network is inaccessible, or the system hangs during the final stages of booting.
Any thoughts? |

think thay added the "run" command to addinterface, and you use it whit out right? |
Yep, that resolves the boot hang, but now with the network interface supposedly configured, nothing works. Shouldn't it be as simple as settings the interface to DHCP in the Internet prefs? Am I missing something?
EDIT: After checking the router, I can see that the A1 isn't listed as a DHCP client. So even if it's set to DHCP, it's either A) not requesting an address or B) not acquiring one.Last edited by PolygonSoup on 01-May-2005 at 03:23 PM.

Try giving your AOne a Hostname. You can find out how by reading the Roadshow documentation on the original OS4.0 Pre installation CD. Its a command added to the addnetinterface line in startup-sequence.

How about verifying that the cable is straight-through or cross-over as needed AND working some patch cables don't work even though they look okay...
I would be questioning connectivity at this point myself...

I'll give that a shot this afternoon. |

Yeah I've explored that avenue. I thought that at first because I made the cable myself. But I have a cable tester and verified the cable works with it and with two other machines. |

You know there's a bug in Internet prefs?
Can you check the DHCP check box at all? I couldn't at first. Then I was told (by sundown I think) that there is a bug there. The solution was to edit the prefs file by hand adding two lines. Can't remember these of the head and I'm not sitting on my Amiga now. But I think it was adding ethernet and dhcp somehow. Anyway these two lines made my network work just like that. Before that I couldn't get RoadShow to even try to connect.
I think there should be a FAQ on AW about these bugs & about getting online with your AmigaOne.
EDIT: I logged on to my Amiga now The current netinterface that you are using should have these four lines:
device=eth3com.device hardwaretype=Ethernet configure=dhcp mtu=1500
Edit these and save with Notepad and restart. Then you will most probably have a working network.

Yes, I could actually check DHCP and it produced a similar netinterface file, but the MTU was 0, so I'll have to give that a shot when I get home.

Once I have everything working, I'm going to put together a little html guide for the networking. I can't see not having one when there are similar questions being asked along with mine.

Do you have the router working on another computer? If you have a PC.. Set it to use DHCP.. When it gets online you know everything is correct with the router.
When I got my netinterface file correct I had no problems whatsoever talking to the router. It should work if you have the setup as I wrote before. Atleast you should be able to view the router setup i IBrowse.
EDIT: btw, the MTU value is not important. I believe 0 means it takes whatever chunks the router sends. My router is set at 1500 so both 0 & 1500 would work for me.

Yep, I'm adding the Amiga into an existing network. Tthe router supports a total of four machines in, three of which work fine.

Bummer, I had hoped that was really part of the problem.

| Well I ditched the DHCP efforts and hardset the IP, gateway and DNS values and here I am posting from the Amiga. I used the internet prefs to set everything. I guess it's just some incompatibility between this network device and the router's DHCP method. At least I'll know where to look if this system ever fails to get online again

I recommend setting your PC to use DHCP and checking if it connects. If successful, confirm router functionality with other devices before integrating Amiga into the network. MTU value is not critical; try both settings for compatibility. |
