OS4/Sam460 frustration continues...

Hi,

Being an owner of a a new Sam460 system and OS 4.1 for a few months now has been, well, rather frustrating.

This morning I powered up my system and it appears that my WarpDataTypes demo has expired. Fair enough. I will purchase the key later today. But wait, there's more!

I clicked on "Ok" and IPrefs quickly crashed summoning the Grim Reaper. Once I selected "Kill" (there is no "Continue" option) I was left with a blank Workbench screen. End of strory.

Is there anyway to get my system up and running again? Since my WB backdrop is probably calling the Warpdatatype (or the Add Datatypes command in the Startup-Sequence), how I can I get to Workbench to fix this issue? Is there any way to skip the startup-sequence and user like the old classic systems?

@Drewlio77

Did you try booting from the installation disc to skip all that stuff so you can acccess your startup-sequence?

@wawa

Thanks. I gave up on this since it appeared never to work. This time I tried clicking both mouse buttons rapidly after the OS 4 logo appears, the menu finally came up.

Now to get the WarpdataTypes key installed...

@Drewlio77

You can also get the Early startup menu by pressing the Scroll Lock key on your keyboard when the OS 4 logo appears.

@Spectre660

Thanks for the tip.

My A1200 classic came to the rescue. I copied my WarpDatatypes key I regged last year to my Sam460 via USB stick. Once I get my new key I bought today for my Sam460 I shall replace it :) I am a firm believer in supporting Amiga Developers, since there are so few of them...

Funny to read that your problems are not related to Sam460ep hardware at all.

Indeed.

Just press Ctrl+C over and over whilst the AmigaOS 4.1 logo is displayed to enter shell then do whatever you need to do from there. Probably delete the associated prefs file whatever it may be.

Sam460 wise, mostly not. OS4.1? Maybe. Why IPrefs cacks after the WarpDatatype requester being closed is left to interpretation. Was it IPrefs or WarpDT that caused this? We may never know...

Well...
since if the WDT was correctly registered nothing weird happens why so much problem blaming OS4.x/Sam460?
And since the problem cna be WDT itself I dont think that was a so big problem...imho...

I have had a similar experience on my SAM440 -- but i didn't even get the grim reaper. Just a requester telling me my WarpDT demo period was over, and clicking 'OK' didn't do anything. I eventually restarted without startup-sequence and restored the default datatypes. Never had any problems like this except with WarpDT.

Eeek! if that works it's probably a nasty side effect. Don't do it!

It's much better to hold doen both LMB and RMB or the scrollock /help key, which will bring you to the early startup mwnu where you can start without startup-seqqunce.

@Tuxedo

Perhaps we are both over-reacting to this...

I still have audio issues with the new drivers (Never works right after Hard resets and randomly fails to work after soft reboots). Plus the well know USB issues still plague me. Mouse and or keyboard are randomly not recognized after cold/warm reboots.

I never said OS4 or the SAM60 is crap. I just simply stated I have had yet another unforseen problem that has added to my early Sunday morning agnst. No insult was intended.

The same thing happened to me under OS 3.9, except that my WB loaded ok. Anything after that, that used WarpDT no longer loaded any images until I registered it.

Why are you even using them under OS4? The Datatypes provided with OS4 seem to work quite acceptably.

I just tried removing my datatypes before rebooting and could do so, (some images missing ofcourse) so the crash for you msut be related to how the WarpDT removes itself after giveing the nesage that it's expired.

Do you a have a valid key?
because your problem is very strange, more when my key I tested it with OS3.9, OS4.1 and MorphOS.

Yes I agree the sound and usb problems are very annoying. And a soft-reboot often leads to a freeze during wbstartup.

Competition Pro joypad often brings up a DSI whenever a game attempts to access AmigaInput - all very annoying.
