Occasional OS4 lockups when accessing my smbfs mounted drive (Windows shared drive), anyone know how to fix this?

@DaveyD

I get lockups when a "large" amount of data has been transferred by smbfs. This can happen anywhere from 100 MB to over 500 MB before the lockup occurs. I've never had it happen at less than 100 MB transferred, however.

I'm not sure if it is a Samba/smbfs thing or maybe the networking in general under OS4. I have also seen these kind of lockups happen when I have my XP box transferring files to/from a shared drive on the A1 (I also have Samba 2.2.5 set up, the OS4 version). However, it's that same thing, happens never on less than 100 MB but usually at some point after that.

Strange. My guess is there is either a common bug in both the smbfs and Samba versions for AmigaOS, or a bug in the network stack in OS4.

@DaveyD

What happens when you limit WindowsXP network connection to 10 MBit ?

@all (especially for gadgetgaz)

Yes, Olaf recently compiled up both the 2.0.7 and 2.2.5 Samba versions for OS4 as well as recompiled the 68K binaries. No, I can't put a link up here just yet.

However, anyone who is on the AmigaSamba ML at Yahoo Groups can get the address for Olaf's "usual place" by browsing through recent messages.

I did find a copy still in my Thor install of the latest message from Anthony Hoffman. He set up a mirror of the files for anyone that is interested. Here's the message:

Quote:
I've mirrored all these new archives on my FTP server as follows:

ftp://samba:samba@amiga.serveftp.net/Samba

or

host name: amiga.serveftp.net
port: 21
username: samba
passwd: samba

New files added are:
samba-2.2.5-source-2.1_4-11-04.lha 3132603
samba-2.2.5-bin-2.1-os4_4-11-04.lha 7325605
samba-2.2.5-bin-2.1-68k_4-11-04.lha 4657117
samba-2.0.7-source-2.1_4-11-04.lha 2237898
samba-2.0.7-bin-2.1-os4_4-11-04.lha 4156871
samba-2.0.7-bin-2.1-68k_4-11-04.lha 2424636

I've been using the 2.2.5 OS4 files for the last few days and no problems so far that seem any different than what I had with the previous 68K binaries. My lockups seem to be related to something in the network software on the A1, rather than anything else.

When I had Linux on this thing, I never had any problems transferring files through Samba to my Linux server (with Samba 3.x on it as the browse master for the network). And I had moved full ISO images around that way a bit too.

- Newly added archives include source and binary files compatible with OS4 systems.
