It's been a few weeks since the Kea Campus launch. There's still a lot of work to do, but some additional content has been added. This includes the first actual content to the Amiga corner (beyond forum discussions).

I made a huge mistake when launching the Kea Campus: I was so focused on the "learn to code" side, that I forgot to explain why the Kea Campus' Amiga Corner exists.

No, it's NOT just an add-on, or some kind of mere token. It's there for a specific mission. A mission that I hope you'll support, because help is needed to make it a success. More support means that more is possible.

It’s great for automated testing after builds, as it lets you “squirt� files to amiga systems and also run them on the amigas with output coming back to the build host. Low memory footprint so it works even on lowend systems with just 68000 and enough RAM to be online, like original Minimig and A500/600/1000/2000/1200 with small and inexpensive ram expansion.

Passing around credentials in clear text over the wire (as is the case for ftp) is IMO a larger security risk than using a protocol that is without authentication :)

Nice try, but ZitaFTP Server supports end-to-end encryption, known unofficially as FTPS (or FTPES to some). I've got my servers set up to only allow secure connections.

So no clear text login details or any unencrypted data is being sent.

That's why I wrote ZitaFTP Server instead of using one of the existing Amiga FTP servers.

Right you are. Sorry. On my phone, the last parameter of the curl command didn’t show (unless I had scrolled, but it wasn’t obvious) and so I just saw ftp:// and made an erroneous presumption.

Funny you say that. Having planned it for months (or was it years?) I finally added a GUI to CIAgent for big 1.0 release. Now I was familiar with classic Intuition and GadTools and wanted to use ReAction. I must have spent 6 months learning it and wrestling with it. I didn't think my GUI design was complicated but ReAction made it so hard. For starters, instead of having one global API for the GUI, the API was split up with each each gadget or class as it were having its own API and each needed to be opened. Then, for what I thought it was designed to do, auto layout gadgets in groups was even more work. It needed extra tags for this and that. And then the labels were overcomplicated as well and couldn't be simply specified as text. For what I thought would be a simple layout it was so complicated. I kept wondering, who designed this, and why is it so complicated? If this was in the real world it would have got the boot! GadTools may lack layouts but at least it's easy to program. ReAction did my head in!

P.S. I tinker with ARexx and RxMUI for MUI GUI,
and ARexx and ProAction for ReAction GUI.

Of course, RxMUI and ProAction are very different and I made alot of rookie mistakes.

I don't remember Reaction being that bad. But, I only ever created very basic GUIs with it.

The problem is to find which external classes are good and which are bad and none probably have their source code released so you end up with bugs that you can’t be fixed.

Compared to GT I found it had a steep learning curve. Some things were inconsistent. Such as some gadgets accepting a label directly while others only take them as an afterthought with a label image following.

However, one thing I haven't liked about MUI is it lacks the multitasking of Intuition. If a MUI program stalls or locks up the menus stop working as if the program needs to manage them. Where as Intuition menus still work regardless of app state. It may seem minor. But it's the little things that can count.
