| Btw if this would be true, Amiga OS would move nowhere with Cloanto in the driving seat (stuck in 1994). |

one thing at time, friend kriz. for now, better a bad driver in the driving seat - than someone in the rape torture kidnap ransom blackmail thieving scam seat.

That would be a good news, but end of OS3 development is sad. |

if true it looks like development of 68k would stop with 3.3 at Hyperion
What this would mean finally is still open in my view
First we need to get official approvement of this information |

| "The creators of AmigaOS" never been Cloanto that is for sure, maybe neither Hyperion but they have made stuff happen. But this thread got no official posts at all so it is truly worthless! |

For two decades Hyperion prevented anything 68k from happening. They insisted sitting on the source code and preventing anyone else (like Cloanto) from working on 68k. It was only when Vampire and Terrible Fire cards etc came around and proved there was a market, Hyperion (Ben, really) was convinced by Olsen and ThoR that developing 68k further could be worth while (especially since everything OS4 had pretty much dried up already) _________________ B5D6A1D019D5D45BCC56F4782AC220D8B3E2A6CC |

Why would it be the end of OS3 development? Minuous already left, ThoR already left… Jens promised IComp will be leaving Amiga (and probably take P96 with him) so there’s now plenty to (re)develop!_________________ B5D6A1D019D5D45BCC56F4782AC220D8B3E2A6CC |

Yes, they claimed "exclusive development rights" and have been gatekeeping the OS sources since like 25 years ago. What rock have you been living under?!Last edited by kolla on 18-Jul-2026 at 05:11 PM.

He has promised to rage-quit the Amiga many times over the years, and posted about it on forums and facebook and written about it in emails. However, he seems to never keep this promis, so eh… who knows.

Cloanto sued Hyperion or Hyperion sued Cloanto ?
I was under this impression: "Cloanto repeatedly took Hyperion to court in an attempt to stop them from developing and selling updated Amiga software. I think this has been happening in some form or another for 20 years." |

or...it began here. Everyone can exercise their own choice on what to believe.
Quote:
Mike and Timothy were talking about a previous legal case, involving Manomio (publisher of an iOS app with Amiga emulation). Mike told Timothy that it was the Manomio case that had brought the initial cease and desist involving Hyperion, to which Ben had promised explanations, and which ultimately led to the 2016 case, which did not come out of the blue as Timothy thought. Timothy said "But I did not know this", blaming Ben who had not told him anything. |
Source
If you don't see how Ben registering Mike's trademarks would be an issue, that's ok too.

| The cases started much earlier, and who sued who ?
I liked this write up btw:
"First of all, and I want to make this crystal clear: Cloanto’s entire business model rests on the Amiga remaining dead. In a bizarre twist of irony, the self-proclaimed caretakers of Amiga actually face financial ruin if the Amiga ever became popular or rose from the grave. Stop and think about that for a moment: They make money on the Amiga remaining a dead system.
The only product Cloanto have actually produced, is a pixel paint program called PPaint, which was awesome back in the previous century.
The state of affairs for the past 18 years, is that Cloanto depends completely an emulator, UAE, short for “The Unix Amiga Emulator”, when it comes to the Amiga . Which ironically is not Cloanto’s work at all, but an emulator created by Bernd Schmidt, Toni Wilen and Mathias Ortmann; neither have received a penny despite Cloanto profiting on their work for close to two decades (!)"

I mean, if you don't have to pay your developers, at least they would be closing for Amiga... Is that worse how? _________________ Indigo 3D Lounge, my second home. The Illusion of Choice | Am*ga |
