As we all know the Amiga made its debut 40 years ago on July 23, 1985 at the Lincoln Center in New York city. It's even more impressive now as it was at that time and caused a sensation and a passion that has never been extinguished.

Here's to 40 years of greatness and the hope for 40 more even better years!!!

@Valiant

To 40 more years when I'll be rocking my Amiga like Dick Van Dyke did into his 80s!

@Valiant

That would be like me messing around with the first airplane capable of sustained, maneuverable flight, the Wright Flyer III from 1905 in 1985! Sounds like a Back to the Future plot!

@Valiant

From Bambi-Amiga LINK

Quote:
The first Amiga bundle was a limited machine by contemporary standards. For $1295.00 US dollar the buyer would receive a 256/512k Commodore Amiga machine, Kickstart & Workbench 1.1 disks, and related manuals. In 1986 many retailers began to offer third party applications and games with the machine.

I guess Workbench came with Amiga (Microsoft) Basic and the speech synthesizer? It was a start though!

Thank you to all Amiga hardware engineers, software devs, 3rd party providers of amazing hardware and software and the huge amount of users who made Amiga so special and such a huge part of my life. I am proud to have kept with Amiga computers and remained involved in the community until now and beyond.

@thread

I was born in 1970, so the launch of the Amiga 1000 was my 'Moon Landing'.

Though back then I found out about it in the August edition of some Yugo computer rag, like 'Moj Mikro' (My Micro) or 'Svet Kompjutera' (Computer World). And I suppose most of us lived with such time delays on news in those days.

Happy birthday, girl.
