@MagicSN

I see your point. Yes, having to wait long delays from sending a command and the relative feedback it is easy that the robot act as automatic as it is possible.

I've followed the links on the Enterprise site and they lead to some photos that are on the very NASA site, so the news is not a fake. I do not know if the former rock part was a real fossil or just an organic shaped rock. We should know the scale of the photo, at least, for judging.
However that piece of rock looks A LOT organic... Let's hope, fingercrossed...

@Quixote

I'd like to say one more thing. I hope I haven't offended you or anyone else... I'm just very passionate about Mars, and I want NASA, ESA and rest to succeed in finding whatever there is to find over there. I hope there are many more surprises just around the corner

I concur. Admittedly, Mr. Hoagland's work upsets a lot of apple carts, and many people find it difficult to accept. It is also likely that since he has been stepping on others' toes, some folk may be deliberately feeding him hoaxed data to reduce his credibility.

While NASA certainly is home to talented enthusiasts who want nothing more than to learn new things and to share them with the rest of us, there remains the issue of whether NASA?s management would share evidence of pervious civilizations with the public. During the run-up to the Apollo program, the government commissioned the Brookings Institute to conduct a survey to determine the impact on society from such evidence were they to find it. The Brookings Report was surprising. It revealed that the churches would be more open to such revelations than one might think, while scientists would be the most resistant. This, then, would be NASA?s management?s motive for hiding such data if it were found.

If you're going to (understandably) bring Mr. Plait's position into the discussion, then it is only appropriate that we view Mr. Hoagland's reply as well. This is a recent addition to Enterprise Mission, so I hadn't linked to it earlier.

First of all hi to everybody, that's my first post.

I've red that thread and seen the photos on the link, and I've one great fear and one great hope.

Let's start from the fear:
there are some rumors that say this mars mission is a fake and the shots are taken from some terrestrial landscape and digitally modified. If the news we are talking about in this thread is true then maybe they are covering this fake... Why? Follow my argument: you're a scientist that send a probe on mars to discover if there has been life in the distant past, you discover something that might be a fossil and you GRIND it to dust? I…

Hi Erik, welcome! It's great to see your enthusiasm for Mars exploration despite the rumors; let’s stay optimistic about future discoveries. Remember that science is always evolving and verifying findings rigorously before drawing conclusions. Keep following updates from trustworthy sources like NASA or ESA, which are committed to transparency in their missions!
