Sorry - but I cannot participate - there is no option to vote for this Quad-Core-PPC beast...

... the real question is why you would want one of these "beasts"? Most users want a nice compact system for their desktop, or is it the power the interests you?
|
Its both - power and expandability.
Sorry - but I'm not "mainstream", never was and most likely never will be. I always thought this would be the reason why each of us is here: not to be mainstream...!?
Although it was a game (FA-18 Interceptor) that convinced me to buy an Amiga two decades back I never was a gamer. Back then I primarily used my Miggy for my studies - you know - CAD/CAM/CAE (MaxxonCAD, DynaCadd, CNC-Tool, MathAmation, FunctionPlotter, Reflections, Maxxon Cinema4d, ...). I even could run the MS-DOS/Win 3.1 apps we used at school (like e.g. "DBase" or "Word 4.0") on my trusty old A500 with Vortex AtOnce 286 classic. Later I moved to an A4k tower conversion, heavily expanded with CSPPC, Mediator, Voodoo4, USB 2.0, NIC, soundcard, DVD-RW, ...).
That's MY Amiga experience.
In this CAD/CAM/CAE field there is no use for "nice compact system for the desktop" - what's needed here is a purposeful system, consisting of sufficiantly powerful and expandable hardware as well as appropriate software.
Two decades back even the smallest Amiga - the A500 - was able to run the required applications. It was slow, but it worked.
I do not necessarily believe what McBill salivates - but at least it sounded nice when he said the next gen Amiga woud get the best hardware ever.
Although Sam440 is more powerful than my A4kPPC (no doubt about that), more power would come in very handy for my intended purposes. And expandability is an absolute "must".
Initially I would be happy, if one of the four 2.2 gHz cores would be supported by AmigaOS and multi-core-support would be added later.
It would really help me, if one of the OS4 developers here picked up the idea of porting AOS to that beast, discussed with the rest of the team and the Hyperion decision makers if it could make sense to support it, and Hyperion then released a public statement if they will support that beast or not, or if ACube has similarily powerful OS 4.x hardware in the pipeline in the foreseeable future.
This info is all I need and ask for at the moment. It can't be that hard to answer this question...

What good is a 400 Mhz system if you want to do rendering with Blender? Or other high-performance applications?
Really, my computers are under the desk, I don't actually care whether they are compact or not as long as they do what I want.

You seem to lack the passion many Amiga users have on the appearance of their machines.

The abilities of a machine is what counts here - not the appearance. A good looking, but not-working computer won't buy me anything ..._________________ Ciao

Why not having both worlds... A powerful machine that looks good. I don't see any problems with that, and everybody's satisfied... |

Yes, but beside consoles, PPC Macs a very little remains. I believe it can be said that PPC home computers are extremely rare today.
However, this crazy hardware uses PPC to some extent, so why not turning OS4 to homeTV, supercomputer or space technology? (lol

I understand that PS3 is great and that its stupid too see it as just console (specially with YellowDogLinux) but is it really the best PPC desktop solution around? I understand that Nintendo is cheaper and also PPC

Agree, I have OS4 allready, so where is my option. "Allready got it! "
Though, as zerohero wrote, we need something now, at least a release to the BPPC/CSPPC, so OS4 gets some more users. |
- Polls lacked relevant options for current OS versions like OS4. - The community expressed urgency in getting updates such as BPPC/CSPPC released for broader user adoption of older operating systems. - There was a consensus on the need for immediate software support to keep users engaged and prevent them from migrating away. |
