I dunno if this was mentioned in this thread but:
PC was/is still the BUSINESS Machine, while Amiga is considered a gaming machine.

Linux could kill the PC now but the lack of commercial software and bloated OS makes the mission more difficult

... Amiga didn't provide an answer to Wolfenstein3D. Doom finished the job.

Would be pretty stupid for the OS to kill the machine it's running on ;)

The Amiga's not dead

However, the Amiga has, indeed, been deeply wounded. Several times. But not by the PC.

Indeed, I can't think of a better advertisement for Amiga OS than Windoze. Every time I boot up a Windoze machine, I dream of Amiga, and wish to gods that i didn't have to use Windoze.

Linux has a similar effect on me.

No. It wasn't the PC that wounded my beloved Computer.

It was Commodore. Then, a few years later, it was Escom. Then Gateway stuck the boot in, and, most recently, Amiga, Inc had a shot at her.

But, like Catwoman, the Amiga has nine lives. She's not dead yet.

Here, Amiga lives and prosper
There, Amiga is dead

@Ancalimon

Because the engineers were not running C=. Engineers deal with reality on a hourly basis, wither it be physics or cost control, it's all black and white but they understand what has to be done in order to get the project finished, mass produced, and shipped to the stores. Only major danger is what they think is cool may not be to the average shopper, but that's the risks. Bean counters should have been in the back ground keeping costs under control so profits are kept. Marketing Dept should have been required to be on an Amiga for four hours a day at a minimum, two of those four hours playing games (pre-Internet days). If they can conduct business and doing something fun on the same box they are selling, they are going to know what and how to push because it's second nature.

Because passed the idea that PC is professional, Amiga is a game machine only.

I rememeber all my colleagues that bought Amiga for their childs without knowing that it was possible to do the same things were doing in office with amiga at home!

@Seya
There is no here and there as long as whoever wants to get an Amiga system is allowed to do so anywhere in the world.

@ilbarbax
You mean "it was perceived" as a game machine... (in Europe mostly, in the US it was perceived more as a workstation for graphics).

@DAX

But largely Amiga failed because it couldn't keep up with developments and because it's hardware was just to tied together. Yes, the idea of a GPU won, but it was impossible for one small multi-purpose company to develop a better GPU than a huge one dedicated to doing so. Amiga was left with it's GPU fastened to the motherboard, whilst PCs were able to easily switch out GPUs on cards...

....Commodore did not realize they had a golden egg in their basket.

It seems the author is using an analogy to suggest that Commodore missed recognizing valuable opportunities, similar to someone overlooking a 'golden egg' among other items. The context implies there may be criticism of how things were handled or decisions made by Commodore at some point in time mentioned as May 26th, 2010.
