Upon recommendation from moderator Darrin, I'm copying the relevant posts about the new C64 projects into a new thread. This doesn't cover everything that is going on, so much as just consolidating what has already been posted into a more on-topic forum.

Apologies in advance if any included links no longer function and additions/corrections are welcome.

Interesting to note that after much discussion of the new cases, a poster mentions:

After receiving a cease & desist from C=Holdings B.V., the case makers have made some statements, as the thread has grown.

There has been talk of buying stickers as opposed to engraving, information on the other molds, etc.

Sales/pledges for these cases are very high relatively speaking, and generating more interest each passing day. I see Jim Drew posting as well.

Apparently the idea of cases was a good one, based on the info coming from the C64C case folks.

It seems as if just the other day they had 500 pledges. Now they seem to have near 500 pledges for EACH of 3 colors.

And users don't think there will be lawsuits after 20 years after no one doing anything with the I.P. As long as someone owns it and as long as there are lawyers, you can't do anything with the I.P. or trademark.

That sounds like it could turn out to be a very expensive mistake. There are doors in life, that are best left shut.

Commodore used the a design patent for all of the designs they used. because the protection lasted for 14 years from the date in was granted. We made the mistake of using the name and from our correspondence with the owner of the Commodore, C= Holdings, they make no claims to the design or the molds. We are free to do anything we like as long as we do not use the name Commodore to promote or sell the products.
