Well, it's an nice piece of hardware especially because it is an notebook but:
it's just another ppc system WITHOUT any connection to Amiga!

Neither the MorphOS nor the AmigaOS developer team mentioned this notebook as a possible target plattform already.

So it's just a poll for dreamers. ;)

@DaFreak

Good point... That we want to be 100% clear, that NO AMIGA Developers have pledged support from any of the camps.

---NOW THE HOPE---
1) Get your Amiga based chatting and emails and forum surfing form work, the airport, on the train or on the bus.

2) Hope that LimeBook catches on the Amiga community enough to convince early BETA testing and then porting to the product.

After all Sam440 and Pegasus both now have OS4.x and SAM even AROS support.
We can dream! YES WE CAN!

@meet.mrnrg

What are you impressions of the speed and user feel on the models you have? I wasn't impressed with them at the shows, your experience at home might be different?

Pre-orders on ebay?
A: No, 2 items available
Any more would require me to take pre-oders to meet bulk buy prices.

Q: Quote:
Pricing? LimeBook is supposed to retail at $250, but you're charging $500. WHY? It's not worth $500 with no OS of interest on it, an NC10 is far superior for a Linux netbook (or hackintosh, etc)
A: Interesting, but not the pricing model, I would implement. [Due to BOOM & BUST theory] Perhaps you can provide details of $250 systems? Do you know who has access to that stock? Which models / spec? How many units need to be purchased? When / Where are they available? Warranty? Support? etc..etc.. any URL's?

Yet some of those things are what I've asked you about. You note you only have TWO on hand, both of which will be sold, presumably. How will YOU honor warrantee, returns? Especially without doing investigation on Lime itself? You certainly won't be making them with a soldering iron yourself...The LimePC is interesting, but the company has not shown it wants to deliver into retail, so I suspect what you've bought it likely from a *very* limited stock, and possibly overpriced (just google 'LimePC pricing' for many hits on $249 retail price), unless it's YOU doing the 'marking up'?

If that's the case, that's ok, IF there was some 'value added proposition' happening here, yet there is not. A $500 netbook for Linux? Fail. I'll take an NC10 for less, thanks. A *possible* future platform for MOS, OS4, AROS? Ok, then wouldn't it be better to do due diligence on Lime/THTQ, to see if they're even capable or interested in producing perhaps 1000 in total for use in the 'Amiga market'? And then, assuming it's sane, getting one in front of Hyperion, AROS, MOS, *assuming* there was even any interest, versus what looks like you trying to double the cost and pocket some chance based on the ignorance of some Amiga users/fans? I'm not saying the latter is the case, but where is the 'value added' for a double the price Linux netbook?

You might want to read some BBRV and others, as the originator of the LimePC is no longer even with the parent company:
MZ LimePC reading

So again, why would someone buy a $500 PPC laptop that is outperformed and available for less, elsewhere, without anything added in except for perhaps some profit for you?

Do the above, ensure a steady supply, and contact Hyperion, MOS, AROS, and get something *real* done...and sure, I'd buy one running OS4 at that price. But not for 'an overpriced Linux netbook that has questionable future or support.'

Quote:

Q: Quote:
No OS of interest on them today.
A: Your HO noted.

NOTE: Me being honest, this is a big learning curve from me, as I haven't graduated from TrumpU yet! But last thing I want is to fade away, I want to apply strategies that will prevent failure in today's and tomorrow 2020 markets.

HO = No? No one wants 'amiga' to fade away. I just fail to see how this helps, without the above being answered, or interest even noted by anyone (MOS/OS4/AROS) - get that, or get them to agree to a port, and I'd happily pay towards putting one in front of Hyperion, but otherwise, where is the value or why would anyone want one?

This is just, well, backwards. This all amounts to:
1. Buy overpriced netbook from you.
2. Run Linux on it as the only OS available.
3. Beta test WHAT? Now is LimePC a beta? Sure is an *expensive* one, if so. If you mean OS4/MOS/AROS, then a port is helpeful prior to beta testing anything.
4. Wait for OS4/MOS/AROS to 'magically decide to do a port to it.' Worked well for all those ibooks and powerbooks, no?
5. Stuck with overpriced linux netbook.
6. You still profit.

Just isn't a way I'd choose, sorry. Love to see OS4 and company on it, but too many questions on the company behind them, not to mention YOUR company and double pricing, and sort of backwards plan leading to still no OS4/MOS etc running on it.

@wegster

http://www.google.com/search?q=LimePC+pricing
#1 Result for me: ---- http://www.i4u.com/article13980.html

Quote:
Anticipated pricing when launched later in 2008
2008 I mean common how wrong were they about a launch date.

Most prices are speculation.. Like the stock market they are either up or down, depending on who's Twitting and who's boasting their specs.

The specs are not all the same neither are the models, neither are the replacement guarantees, nor are the support systems the same.

IMHO: You always say it's too expensive. That's your opinion.

Besides they probably are quoting the estimated price for 100,000+ units whole sale!
If they sell for less than $500 I guess they will soon after be planning. MULTI-MILLION dollar layoffs and announcing mega large restructuring plans, to avoid bankruptcy.

@meet.mrnrg
BTW, you DO realize you're in violation of this, the second you posted a link to your own 'company's links on eBay, right?
Quote:

Advertising in forums and news items: Paying sponsors and banner advertisers need not read this section.
AmigaWorld.net provides a classified advertising module which is the only place other than paid for advertising banners that adverts are permitted in. This includes promoting goods and services, links to online auctions or advertising in signatures or through avatars. If in doubt, write a classified advertisment. Press releases are considered under a different category we accept that companies have a need to propogate news and information. If you consider it newsworthy then submit it as a news item. Our moderation team will either publish it or not depending on their judgement as to its newsworthiness and let you know why they did not publish you if they decide against it. If you are directed that an item is not newsworthy, you will be instructed to either place it on the forums or in the classifieds advertisments.

The only reason it wasn't deleted at once as a TOS violation is because people, myself included, are interested in the LimePC in general, as one of the few non Apple PPC laptops, and honestly, because I hoped you might have an actual plan besides 'profit and pray.' :-/

If you'd like to continue this, I'd suggest removal of the ebay ad, as it is in violation of the above. Feel free to place it in the classifieds section, then if you'd like, you and others can continue to discuss LimePC and any 'business plan' to magically get any AOS-like system on them.

@meet.mrnrg

BTW, here's the 'CherryPal,' $249, same or very similar as LimePC, sold through Amazon. However, check their feedback:
http://www.cherrypal.com/SHOP.html

I don't put any faith in either company to produce anything for retail at this time. There also was a reason Genesi stopped dealings with them....

There's a possibility to run AROS hosted on LinuxPPC, but I'm not sure if it can run AOS4 or MOS apps.

There's some miss info regarding Intel netbook chipset usage coming from Neko.

@Hammer

Sure, and I'd bet AROS would be the most likely to do a port, if anyone..just don't see either Cherry nor Lime as a 'real company producing real products' at this time, and even then, the prices were at $249, not $500.

Would you choose this as your netbook over an MSI Wind, NC10, HP Mini, etc?

They have to start from somewhere.

Personally, I haven’t considered any netbooks, but I generally purchase ASUS branded 14 to 15.4 inch laptops.

@wegster

Again specs are totally different.
1) Not a FreeScale Processor let alone a PPC compatible one.
2) No 32GByte SSD
3) No hope for Amiga OS but maybe AROS.
4) Windows XP is optional, additional license fees apply - YUCK
5) Totally different company, again in same breath, that has not announced any plan to support the Amiga community.
6) Prices are direct purchase from company

PLEASE PAY ATTENTION!

Is there a cheaper and lesser capacity SSD?

One problem, AROS runs on X86.

AROS for SAM440EP PPC is an ongoing project...
So there is a path!

The short term plan is to sell all units, near maximum specs and %100 identical.

I've heard people do some cross compiling, but the source code can some times be a little or a lot different!
