| So here in the UK, the last major video gaming shop named GAME, is closing down. (they may exist a bit in Sport Direct, who own them, but all the last independence store have closed). Its a sad day, I mean that particular gaming shop hasn’t really been the same the last few years and neither was it my favourite, GameStation/Virgin Megastore, where my fav.
So do you think its the end of high street gaming and whats your memories?

Electronics Boutique were the last UK shop to stock Amiga games. I bought The Settlers and I wish I'd got Ruff 'N Tumble. Special Reserve took over with mail order for me. And now I buy downloadable Amiga games on itch.io or physical versions on Kickstarter, Amiga-Shop.net, or at Amiga Shows!
But yes GameStation were great but for the PS2, Mega Drive stuff etc. _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." John Lasseter, Co-Founder of Pixar Animation Studios |

Watched all the (decent) Star Wars films on physical media last weekend! Dream of owning the original 1977 print on Blu-Ray! _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." John Lasseter, Co-Founder of Pixar Animation Studios |

Brick and mortar gaming stores are vestiges of a bygone era, they simply can't compete with online stores. Truth be told, only physical media I buy now are Amiga related, most of my games are on GoG, Steam etc.
Probably first games me and my brother bought were Homeworld and Morrowind, but that was years after the Amiga market collapsed. Of the game boxes I later bought (either in sales, or online auctions) I like most Populous 2 (Amiga) and Dungeon Keeper Gold (PC), because these are the games I wanted to buy as a child. They are installed on every computer I use (my netbook has even the box version of DK - GoG/DOSBox version is too slow on this hardware in "high" resolution ).
I also have fond memory of other game boxes: Dune (PC), which was playable under PCx on our A1200/030 and Pirates Gold (Mac), working well in Shapeshifter. |
