BUT, there MUST be some way of Peg2-AOS4.0 NEVER being able to run on other Pegs, so, Acill would have to pay for the development and production of some add in that would prevent it from working in Pegs proper.

It's been said that could be added with a usb dongle.

Then, if he's a real "supplier", he'd have to be able to have at least say 20 machines in stock, so, he'd also have to have at least another, what, $350*20= $7,000 available to invest.

Or partner with someone who is already a dealer. Not unlike what GuruMeditation and Troika are doing.

Then, there's the flat out, probably yearly license name branding fee to Amiga Inc. too, that is on top of that.

Huh? I've never heard of any such... Are you making this up as you go?

Or would all of the above be covered by $20,000?

I don't know, but if you get in touch with Amiga Inc, ask them and let us know.

Troika can get away with alot more than not having a lot of money to invest because, the version of AOS4.0 for their board cannot possibly run on any other board made on the planet today. So, it's a "safe" property.

How so? Why would OS4 on the Pegasos II be any more of a pirate risk than OS4 on the Troika? Anything can be hacked.

We were also told for the last couple of years that if people wanted OS4 for the Peg/Peg II, all they had to do was buy a license. Then someone comes along and offers up their own money for the license and port, and Amiga can't even bother to respond. I guess they didn't expect anyone to actually try it. If Amiga are going to make licensing rules, they should at least play by their own rules when others try to buy the license.

I guess they went into agreement with eyetech about giving them monopoly or something

@jahc

after reading the price, I'm a little dissapointed. The machine is slightly better than microA1 but It's too expensive IMHO. I hope they can make better deals so price comes down.

I think 1. its a smokescreen, they just dont want to give away all their details yet.. and 2. they might have boards with different speed chips and the fastest one might be around that figure..

this is all speculation, I dont know anything for sure.

what I do know is that they're going to have a juicy FAQ on their site www.troikang.com in aproximately 2 days. around monday/tuesday. (or wednesday if you're in new zealand hehe)

It's funny that you talk about OS4Emu without even knowing what it is. That's off topic, but yu brought it up. It's not supported by Genesi or even the MorphOS team for that matter, it's third party software,
and it can't and will never be able to either replace OS4 or run it under emulation. That's not its point.
Get your bloody facts straight for once.

@Herewegoagain/Atheist

I can understand if Amiga does not want to give the license to Genesi because of things in the past. But for new hardware not.

That would be my first thought also. But it's not true. The only "monopoly" Eyetech has is on the name AmigaOne.

I'm feeling very pessemistic about the whole lack-of-licensed-hardware situation, but if you are constantly taking Prozac (as some seem to) then feel free to dismiss me:

I'm going to wait until Xmas/January, and if we still haven't got an official announcement about a new hardware license (such as for Troika), OR a new batch of A1s by then, I'm really going to mentally mark OS4 as a valiant-but-probably-failed effort. Waiting forever for some lame companies to make the right decision is simply not a realistic option.

While Amithlon is still working as well as it ever did, the compromises I have to make when using it have been more & more annoying, as has being tied to an ageing piece of PC hardware (and Win98SE). Plus the more & more cool stuff being released for OS4 (which I can't run) is almost the last straw. At some point I will need to replace my existing system, and if OS4 isn't available then I'm simply going to *have* to look elsewhere.

Maybe that means getting some hardware that AROS will actually run on natively (it won't even boot here), maybe it means switching to Haiku/Zeta (BeOS), hell, maybe it even means switching to MorphOS. Or perhaps it just means switching to WinUAE running on XP/Vista. I don't know yet, but once OS4 is removed from my choice list, I'm going to have to make some hard decisions...
