@amitv

You're not likely to get any info it seems.
I understand Hyperion's policy even if it's a shame we can't get to know a bit of what to expect in the future.

I _guess_ it's some radical changes to OS4 but I really hope it's something that gives us access to hardware with a better price/performance ratio. I personally see that as most important right now (my A1 is slowly dying and I can't afford a Flex system atm.).

@amitv

I agree with everybody here that Hyperion have, unlike Amiga Inc, NOT let anyone down. They simply have much to do, and then again it's this trial case they have to fight still..

But that doesn't stop Hyperion from working on AmigaOS 4, as they are allowed to keep working on it and form partnership with partners whom will support AmigaOS 4. They might have many projects yes. OpenGL is underway, which i understand and they do have plans to intergrate support for Java.

It's also possible that they will include the new streaming technology adopted by ATI. To allow the graphic card's own GPU to work with more intensive tasks, freeing the main CPU more and more for other important tasks, providing much better multimedia performance and multitasking...

So please, be patient and i am sure Hyperion will provide something new in time. Unlike Microsoft, Hyperion is not a big company yet and it takes time to complete things. The development might be a bit slow, but it's at least secured and ongoing, which is important..

@Rogue

Hiya Rogue,

Will you tell us if the project is related to AmigaOS? That should be still vague enough to not tell us much (AmigaOS 4.2? AmigaOS 5? Port to new hardware? ) but still give us a scrap of info?

no offence. my point was along the lines of over imagining what is coming then find out that it wasn't as much "ambitious" as was imagined.
as for the bolstering intrest there is no probs with that all companies do this to an extent. as such i expect that to an extent. just don't follow ainc's example tho.

actually if you are right about that you just shot yourself in the foot. as the ambitious project was announced just not the specifics.

you & yourself=plural forms.

This is all well and good. But in fairness folks are just looking for Hyperion to provide a bit more info on something they decided to tease the community with. They have been around long enough to know that saying what they said would cause legitimate questions. Well they got the buzz they wanted, now the question is how will they respond to the publicity they sought on this within the community? So far the strategy appears to be, play coy.

@Gleng
Hyperion (well Rogue anyway) has previously ruled-out a PS3 port of OS4 (due to poor gfx performance), so I don't believe that for a second. They/he has also explicitly ruled-out an x86 port of OS4. I started a long-ish thread (which got de-railed for a while) for suggestions about what it could be - there were some good suggestions, although I still preferred mine.

I can match it, and I bet (remember in what game you had to do this.. before you start the race?) another 15 ¤ on a XBOX port!

@AmigaBlitter

X-box eh ??

Hmm, could be.... but is it 'Ambitious' enough ?? It is just another PPC platform. So they only need to change the HALL.

No I dont think their 'Most Ambitious Project Upto Date' (MAPUD) -boy, I hope this acronym catches on - is an X-box port.

But it could be cool.
