It’s kinda funny, annoying, and sad, the one company (Amiga Corp) not making a A1200 system and putting the risk/funding into manufacturing and building a system/product and instead letting others do all the work and is just sitting back sub licensing to companies like retro games ltd, and A1200.net who got rights to use Amiga on its cases, is likely the company on paper who has the most rights to it.

During the 1980s in the real world, Microsoft licensed its MS-DOS (known as PC-DOS on IBM-branded PCs) to other PC hardware clones. The physical machine manufacturing funding risk is on the PC clone vendor, not on Microsoft.

PC clone manufacturing has further split into OEM (funding risk) and ODM (contract manufacturer). PC's reference designs are done by either AMD Inc. or Intel Corporation.

In the 21st century, Microsoft turned into an OEM with the Xbox and Surface PC product lines, with 3rd party ODM contract manufacturers. Microsoft outsourced Surface PC hardware-related support to Dell support.

ASUStek itself split into Pegatron (ODM), ASUStek, and ASRock. ASMedia is related to ASUS. Each legal entity isolates the risk associated with a particular activity.

A company like Tesla Motors Inc bucks the trend with vertical integration like an East Asian conglomerate.

In the last week our A1200 logo and A1200 trademarks completed registration in United Kingdom to complement our existing A1200 trademark from 2018.

@amigakit

Congratulations.

But now that CIC has "initiated legal action" against Commodore Industries (December 12, 2025), I believe all talk of Amiga lawsuits and trademark objections will firmly take a back seat to what actually gets covered in more national media.

Regardless of which Commodore or Amiga entity one associates with, I am certain that the entire legal profession in the U.S. and overseas wishes all of you a very very merry holiday season for the vast financial contributions you have made to the profession over the ensuing decades!

@amigakit

Well done to you. I look forward to buying an A1400 from your competitor.

It is strange how everything comes down to names, brands and keyboard cases, when we should have CPU power and modern OS concepts for a reasonable price.

But Why?

Is Amigakit planning on suing Retro Games ltd, THE A1200, is already in the shop taking pre-orders?

I do find it interesting that on https://retrogames.biz/legal/ THEA1200 is missing.

I recognize you got to protect your business and products, but to all Amiga parties, please please, just invest in making great products for the Amiga community, not on Ip/trademark battles. Thank you.

I wish they would simply offer the 'A1200 NG' in a case that would be appealing for the masses, if "Retro Games" is using the same ARM hardware like before, they will have hard time to compete with Amigakit.

But when it comes to the brand name war, you must register your trademark before the competitor does. Strange, I thought the appearance of a system calling itself "THE A500" instead of "Amiga 500" had brought some of this struggle to an end.

Are you saying it is hard to compete with a widely available fully functional system ready for the masses against a DIY kit that is sold in small batches from one vendor?

Yes, Amigakit has a working board with software they could sell, their competitor have an announcement.

But lacks both case and keyboard.

but apparently both case and keyboard.

The obvious thing for AmigaKit would be to offer their A1200NG (or is it "THE A1200 NG" now?) as an upgrade kit for THEA1200, but that would be borderline to cooperation and we for sure cannot have that!
