@DiscreetFX

You REALLY need a link back to DiscreetFX on the blog, to let people rectify this without hassle, if they choose to:

We have yet to even sell one copy of Aladdin 4D ourselves which did surprise us a little. We thought that maybe a few Amiga fans would support us since we saved one of their software packages from certain death.

Blame Nova for that, they did a half ass job of updating it & ignored all the bug reports that I & others found. Don't expect to sell many, if any, until its updated. It has problems with os4 final, but I will buy an upgrade when/if you follow through on its development.

Back when I’m in high school, I was interested in 3D ray-tracing (i.e. I used Cinema 4D AOS edition for school projects) now that interest has died down i.e. it’s all n-tier MIS (managed information systems).

Understood sundown, we know it will be a challenge but are up for it. There is no reason at all stopping Aladdin 4D from also being one of those great 3D animation programs that started out on the Amiga. But this time the Amiga will not be forgotten. We have a passion to update and nurture this neglected program.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed using Aladdin on my classic. One of the reasons for buying an A1 was to get the render speed up. I made a kickstart config to boot into ud4 so I could still play a little with it, as it is my favorite 3D app to date on the Amiga.

Was looking at Real3D for the pc, but at around $800 USD, to rich for my blood. I loved their software layout though, would love to see it for Aladdin, but the Amiga market wouldn't support a high cost 3D app. Its a good idea to port to other platforms for that reason.

@DiscreetFX

I thing your blog has a little too many posts about Amiga this and Amiga that. I suppose that most of us in this community are familiar with your passion about it.

Personally since I moved to Linux I have lost interest in Amiga stuff (I have an Efika though).

Just thought I'd add a comment about selling Aladdin4D. Most consumers want to see a price, description and order button. I personally can't stand companies that don't give prices and say "email us if you're interested." I've had no choice but to email them, only to find that their price isn't even in the ball-park of acceptable for me. Then I have to put up with a year or two of harrassment from their marketing and sales department ("so when are you going to buy?"). As a general rule, I won't buy from someone unless they specify a price in their catalogue.

So I suggest that you set up an online shop, or go through existing Amiga dealers such as AmigaKit. BTW, I didn't even know that you were selling the current version. I'll be holding off for the upgraded version as I need to know that it will work properly on my A1.

Hans

@Hans

it's not in our online store yet because we just took over at the end of December and we have not even received the full inventory from Nova Design yet.

I also intent to purchase a copy of Aladdin 4D for Amiga OS.
At first I would like to choose Cinema 4D who was given on a Amiga CU CD (or maybe AFormat?) but I prefer to use and support a software from an company.

By the way, it's a well written blog and the post "Screwmiga" does well represent my thought about the current policies of AInc.

I had no idea it was for sale either, not that I am in the target market but still...

My personal feelings (which may or may not be mirrored by many other people) are "pay for what you can see & touch", and NOT "pay on the basis of promises". Which may seem harsh, but that is the one thing that pre-pay schemes (and their like) have taught many Amiga users over the years. So if you are only selling the ancient OS3 version of Aladdin, I would only buy it if I was interested in using it (as it stands now, bugs & all) - I would *not* buy it to "support" you (sorry!). Some others do feel different, of course.

Other comments that people have made, about a decent on-line shop (and perhaps using AmiKit) are very well made. If selling isn't an easy & seamless process, it definitely won't happen (often). Even if it is easy, that's still no guarantee of a sale, but it will be one less hurdle.

Feel free to take or leave the above opinions, as I make them simple in the hope they might be useful somehow.

Thanks for all your feedback guys it is much appreciated. We want to do this right so Aladdin 4D can have a bright future and Amiga can again have professional native fast 3D animation software.
