| It was 2 November 1995. During his key note address held in Los Angeles at the Video Toaster Expo, Petro Tyschtschenko, CEO and President of Amiga Technologies officially announced the Power PC to be the processor used in the future generation of Amiga computers. 29 years passed since PowerPC was choosen as new Amiga cpu.

Hilarious! It's also the 419th Anniversary of foiling the Gunpowder Plot and hence the celebration in the UK of Guy Fawkes night on Tuesday 5th November. One had far reaching connotations for the protection of our Parliamentary Democracy and dealt a severe blow to sectarianist violence and the other...well....it was all fairly pointless! I'm glad the PPC farce has come to the end with the final Amiga release in the A1222+. Trevor, the remains of Phase5 and Alan Redhouse all did their best and got poorer doing it but good ridance! RIP PPC. Last edited by BigD on 03-Nov-2024 at 03:51 PM.

| @BigD It is strange how you celebrate the end of "sectarian violence" while engaging in a form of "Sectarianism" attacking people who do not follow your preferences, (emulation, PPC, etc). You also brought your religious preferences and prejudices to this platform. The Amiga died as a viable commercial enterprise when my youngest children were toddlers, and people like you are the reason younger people are not being attracted to the platform. I still use my original 1200, and a SAM 440 for games and hobbies. If I want to work I use a Windows PC because that is the only platform that runs the inustry standard software required for my job. To be clear, bigots like yourself are part of the reason the Amiga "community" is so irrevocably divided, you are a bitter and twisted individual who probably voted for DeformUK on the fourth of July.

My kids love the Amiga! You and that "B" word again!

X86-64 is a superset of IA-32/i386. X86-64 still has IA-32/i386 compatibility.
X86-64's Long Mode still has userland IA-32/i386 compatibility. Last edited by Hammer on 03-Nov-2024 at 11:48 PM.

AmigaOS FE 4.x PowerPC includes a userland 68K emulator.
Later AmigaOS FE 4.1 releases have bundled UAE.

Yeah. Seems to me that its been 29 years of stagnation, that priced out lots of potential customers.. I think its time to move to a more affordable solution. Personally I think arm seems like the obvious choice, especially considering the amount of pi accelerators for classic amigas.
A new affordable AmigaOne? arm based platform, that a new AmigaOs can target alongside the classic pi accelerated machines seems like a sensible way to expand the next generation platform for software devs.

Sadly the second had far reaching consequences too, given that we're still ball and chain to an architecture which might have had some sense back in mid-nineties but totally lost it the second Apple decided to switch.

But we're not are we! We just backport the AmigaOS4.x/Enhancer elements to 68k or ARM code like the A600GS has partially done and sidestep PPC altogether. Who is going to miss the PPC back catalogue of software?_________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." John Lasseter, Co-Founder of Pixar Animation Studios |

You don't need to miss it. Most of it is probably portable enough to be recompiled directly, provided the sources are maintained._________________ Doing stupid things for fun... |

Incorrect. m68k Petunia works fine since 4.0 some update, its other internal parts of OS4 that make it less OS3 WB apps friendly
UAE was never shipped as OS4 element but as extra (RunInUAE)
It took bounty to make optimized UAE for OS4 including x1000 optimized one.
It would be better if UAE was process permanently or instead of XENA with had FPGA with some Amiga chipset core. _________________ OS 3.x AROS and MOS supporter, fi di good, nothing fi di unprofessionalism. Learn it harder way! SinclairQL and WII U lover :D YT http://www.youtube.com/user/rasvoja |

Many years of AEON Hype milking with not so good end result mixed bag.
I find A600GS software pack much more reasonable and fairer priced. _________________ OS 3.x AROS and MOS supporter, fi di good, nothing fi di unprofessionalism. Learn it harder way! SinclairQL and WII U lover :D YT http://www.youtube.com/user/rasvoja |
