Good morning folks,
today I’m bringing you some good old gossip: Amiga and the glamorous life, a mix you don’t see every day.
Who remembers the “romantic adventures” of Jim Collas with one of the dancers who used to liven up the Amiga conventions? A soap opera worthy of The Bold and the Beautiful, only with the fate of our beloved computer in the background. Sadly, it didn’t end well: Collas’s wife found out, the scandal exploded, and in my opinion, that’s when the last real chance for Amiga’s revival went down the drain. Collas, let’s not forget, was at Gateway Computers at the time.
So, yesterday while I was reading through the transcripts of Ghislaine Maxwell’s deposition (yes, Epstein’s ex). Out of nowhere, it turns out that in the early 2000s—right when the sale of Amiga to McEwen was being negotiated—Maxwell was dating Ted Waitt, CEO and founder of Gateway.
It just struck me as a funny coincidence, perfect for some weekend reading: even the Amiga world, every now and then, manages to give us its own tabloid moment.
