Hi

30 years ago 2 november 1995
During his key note address held in Los Angeles at the Video Toaster Expo,
Petro Tyschtschenko, CEO and President of Amiga Technologies
officially announced the Power PC to be the processor used
in the future generation of Amiga computers.

Let's celebrate !!! Have fun !!!

So many years, so many memories,
it was good year 1995
We all were young

Enthusiastic, believing in a bright future ahead, unfortunately empty pockets so could never afford the step towards PowerPC.

Good times. Lots of hope and desire to support Amiga. I got my A1200 around that time. I eventually bought a Phase5 Blizzard 603e, only to sell it after a short while since I couldn't do much with it.

Back then it was the idea to do what Apple did, the PPC seemed a good replacement for the 68k that was deemed EOL.

Some years later this idea folded, it started when Apple grounded the AIM initiative many producers of PPC systems planed to sell their systems as Mac-Compatibles, some where cheaper ans faster than Apple, P5 and PIOS ( https://www.amigawiki.org/doku.php?id=de:models:piosone ) knew the Amiga market might be to small and planed to be active in both markets.

After Steve Jobs ended it, it didn't take long for Apple to switch to Intel Apple fans claimed RISC has been to expensive and a failure. This was a backslash for PPC as fast desktop compatible CPU, because now there where no serious customers needing this architecture any more.

Resume:

High hopes and dreams, lost chances and betrayal of the "Amiga Community".

Just this once, I'll agree with you. It was a great time for sure. I have fond memories of unpacking my blizzardppc and getting it up and running.

Phase 5's Amiga PPC effort is capped by

a few 100,000 A1200 production scale,
a few 100,000 A2000 production scale,
a few 10,000 A3000 production scale and
a few 10,000 A4000 production scale.

This does not include attachment rates.

TheA500mini (68K to ARM64) has already sold over 100,000 units.

A reminder, Amiga is not a Mac i.e. different demographics when Apple's install base can buy 1.2 million PowerMacs during 1994 to Jan 1995.

Phase 5's Amiga PPC experience started in 1997.

Petro "marketing" Tyschtschenko pushed the Amiga Walker "LPX" (Baby AT) prototype with 68030 @ 33MHz or 68030 @ 40 Mhz in 1996. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amiga_Walker
It also marks the end of the Amiga as a single community, it would go in several different directions thereafter.

Those where some pretty good days. I relished the idea of having a "PowerAmiga".
AT never came through, but in 1998 I did buy a phase5 BlizzardPPC + Bvision for my A1200 in a tower case.
So many possibilities. So much wasted potential.
