As per First Results of PiStorm 3D Project discussions about the legal status of Warp3D and its rewritings.
1. APIs have NO LEGAL COVERAGE. They can be freely implemented by anyone (as Wazp3d shown, for example).
The Oracle vs Google case for the Java APIs is a clear example of that. No one can claim IP infringement if someone else completely reimplements the APIs with a clear-room method.
AROS is another example.
2. Warp3D doesn't look to be a registered trademark, so it might be used as well.
However, and to avoid discussions, the same approach of Wazp3D can be made (e.g.: use a different name, then rename the library and whatever is needed to make it work after the installation). |
