The shark is supposedly a sonnet crescendo and it is sold at $40, so why i would want to pay $399 on a same card with the only difference being probably a firmware change?.
This is a clearly robbery, but hey, THIS IS Amiga...

@Mikey_C

I would buy 1.

I have a 4000 at the moment - but I would be intruiged by the idea of running OS4 on an A1200.

Putting a SAM 440 in a 1200 would be neat if it could run OS4.

It would be interesting if Acube somehow managed to Kludge the Sam440 into a classic PPC clone using the FPGA. I doubt it however.

The easiest way would be to somehow get the plans for the PhaseV/DCE accelerators and implement this in an FPGA. It depend what 68K processor OS4 classic is expecting - Nothing less than a 40 I should think.
Was there ever commercial 68040/60 cores released?

It would be nice if Individual had been beavering away and could release an A1200/PPC clone card!

Already have a PPC but wouldn't say no to something with more grunt.

In the Amiga market, people will take what they can get, heck look at the prices on ebay.

Yeah, I'm aware of that. However, at that price, unless it was able to run standalone, it's simply not worth investing that much in 15-20 year old hardware, period. It's too bad Adam's such a flake - the PowerVixxen concept was of the most interest, although in that case, it was meant for OS4 only, and no 68k. But, in theory, the idea was to allow it to run standalone as well. That's the only way I'd consider spending that amount of $ on a classic accelerator.

I would buy one, if not two... But leave out the 680x0 cpu, no need for that one.

@wegster

I'm with you, Wegster, except for just the opposite reasons.

I need AGA compatibility out of my systems. I have an A1200 with a Blizzard 1230 accelerator and a MicroA1-c. I don't use either of them enough to justify their space on my desk upstairs. If I could just get an A1200 accelerator that would run AmigaOS 4 then I could trade off the MicroA1-c so that I shouldn't need to be afraid of the CPU frying on the MicroA1-c due to the poorly designed northbridge and southbridge chips. I would not need to worry about the A1200 dying likewise since I'd still be able to run most of my applications on the stand-alone mode accelerator once that death happened.

I voted 'Maybe', but that answer would depend upon the price. Bring it at US $199-$299 and I'm in. But at $580, no way. It's just not worth throwing that much money into such an old system.

I agree with Wegster, the PowerVixxen idea was the best, and I have an A1200 and 2 A3000's here which could take one if Adam ever decides to bring them out.

$580 USD I can buy a whole Dell computer system for that price!

If PPC cards went for a max of $350, I might be interested. Otherwise, no thanks...

It´s not only the price, is what you get with that price
Anyway for 390 euro for at leat 600 mhz PowerPC and expansion ports and a few items more on board I would buy one

Bout ACube, for that price I would atleast expect a G4, or atleast something a bit faster as the SAM and with all the bells&whistles ..... wether it can be conneceted to an Amiga or not doesn't matter.

I might also buy something like an EFIKA with A1200 slot, bt only if it's done right and at the right price (below 200 Euro street-price). Not that I would have any practical use for it, just for the geek-factor.

I agree on the EFIKa part. However if EFIKA is available it will be enough, even as a desktop board.

A maybe from me. It would really depend on whether someone would be able to produce new affordable hardware as my 1200 isnt going to last forever and will eventually not do justice to OS4 or beyond.

As long as it ran Amiga OS 4.0 I suppose I would have to buy it.

you know i'd have to say maybe..just because I would like to see if the card works well with older games/programs first ...if its stable with the classic stuff then I would consider it

And I still wouldn't buy one at those prices, either.

People seem to forget something - while there may be some low number of people I consider insane for paying prices like that, were a new accelerator available, would they want to sell 50-100 or several hundred?

I've been in the same position - I could make a decent profit at ~ $200 per unit, which was priced competitively, or price it higher and be greedy. I went with selling this particular thing at $200, and everyone was happy, sold tons of 'em.

Again, do we want 50 new users or several hundred?

(Not that I believe we'll see much, either way, but showing people insane ebay prices some people are paying means there's demand, not that everyone with any interest would pay those prices).

@wegster

Agree with your entire post.
Just posted the latest to compare with what Mikey used for base prices late last year.
(and since very few people post here anymore, I tend to look at this poll quite differently than what I would have say...a year ago.)

I have seen PPC cards going for extreme prices of late, the average for a functional CSPPC seems to be in the region of £500-600, and BPPCs (040 got for around £300-400, 060 goes for £300-500).

@thread

While having a PPC card for a classic machine would be nice, the biggest problem is with the A3/4000 cards as they are limited to the 128MB DMA window on the CPU socket. 128MB ram is miniscule by standards today, and is painful for those OS4 applications that really need more (OWB for example).

In this case you'd be better off with a 1200 version (especially if the Clone-A ever comes out as that was meant to be AGA and have an A1200 compatible CPU connector).

what we need is card where RAM and AGP/PCI/PCIx cards and CPU is on the same board, and yes that sound more like a complete motherboard.

I vote no unless it was g5 above 2ghz with PCI PCIe AGP USB 2.0 onboard sound space for up to 4 gig ram etc
