it's just a 23-pin to 15-pin VGA adapter only that C= provided with the '1200. Doesn't do anything other than let you hook up a VGA monitor - only special modes work with it, forget any games, etc. |
Actually, I used one of these silver VGA adapters with a huge number of games on one of my A1200s using ModePro from AMINET. Set your workbench up to one of the working screenmodes viewable on a VGA monitor and run ModePro to promote all screens to this video mode. A surprising number of games will work just fine...some will not.

Mode promotion is built-in to the system. Under 3.0 you have to set a checkbox to make it work, with 3.1 it is active by default. The 3.1 Prefs editors and monitor drivers work perfectly well with KS3.0 - in fact the doubled screenmodes are a little improved.
Promotion only works when Workbench is loaded, so games that take over the machine (The Settlers, for example) will still drop back to 15KHz. _________________

Multisync Monitors. Amiga multisync monitors offer a compromise between the old TV monitors and the latest SVGA models. All Amiga modes are supported, ranging from the 15kHz TV modes to the high resolution 31kHz. Applications will not suffer from the interlace flicker found on TV or TV-compatible monitors. They are still available in large numbers, both as new and second hand, and were officially endorsed by Amiga Technologies during 1996, who licenced the Microvitec model.
Advantages:
100% Compatible with Amiga screenmodes and graphics cards. Widely available from many Amiga retailers. Disadvantages: Has some problems with extremely high resolutions found on some of the latest graphics cards. Not quite as cheap as the SVGA variety due to less demand. |
does this mean all multsync monitors are compatible or is it only certain ones?(without a scan doubler)_________________ Win•dows: n. Only certain ones like a NEC 3D. Basicaly, they have to scan down to 15kHz to be fully compatible.
If you end up with no other options, PM me.

| Hi@jkirk
so nobody has any suggestions?
My A1200/40HD shares the A1000 Color Monitor. It was the first of the 1942 monitors. I've tested a my Toaster Scandoubler on a old NEC-4D MultiSync Monitor some years ago, but that old expensive hardware and not worth it. I use the A1200 a lot to feed the A1 my floppy disk collection. _________________
