average price of a CyberstormPPC with 060 was about 1000 EUR when still in production.
What make you think it would cost less now?
@Framiga
Because all other computers ,hard drives, etc. have dropped drastically in price ?

Exactly, thank you.

What would be the point?
OS 4.0 has already moved on, why would I want to buy a PPC card to run an older OS (than 4.1).
On the other hand, if someone released a cheap 060 card that supported cheap modern memory, I'd buy it in a flash!
I think OS 4.1 and the versions after that are better off running on new HW, leave the classics to run classics software (OS 3.9).

I have seen PPC cards going for extreme prices of late, the average for a functional CSPPC seems to be in the region of £500-600, and BPPCs (040 got for around £300-400, 060 goes for £300-500). |
Hmm...over a year later and still going for the same prices.
BPPC £350 about a week ago
Next up...CSPPC on April 18

Instead of epaying $500 to 600 for a used PPC card with no warranty I'd much rather buy a NEW SAMflex. Isn't the SAM faster than any PPC add-on card sold?
Buying the SAM supports production of new Amiga compatible hardware . In either case you'll need new Amiga OS relaese to get the most use of the hardware.

Maybe so, but the CSPPC I mentioned in post #83 had 21 bids and sold for 762 USD regardless.

Sure, but this is more proof of where the market really is I suppose. It was said by many that after SAM's release, that accelerator prices would drop dramatically. Perhaps these statements were made based on the theory that everyone wanted an accelerator for OS4.x only. Obviously this is not the case. Anyway, after many years without progress on this money-making front...the data seems to indicate that a focus on "sales" is not paramount to the powers that be/have been.

| I voted no as i already have my Sam to run OS4.1 on. It just aint worth the investment to me considering it will be slower for running OS4.1. |

I think its pretty clear that our community has a number of obsessive hoarders as well. It only takes a couple of folks to keep driving up prices on this stuff. And there is going to be the occasional person who wanted the board way back when and could not afford it as a kid but can now as an adult.

Interesting also to hear Acube's input on this topic, since one "might" assume that an accelerator would somehow affect their sales of NG boards in an adverse way. Fortunately, they understand that there are 2 distinct markets here.
From the Q/A in October posted on AW:
Quote:
(06) In a perfect world, what would you like to see accomplished with regards to the Amiga, both classic and next generation - hardware and software. |
Quote:
We would like to see new software for Amiga that fills the gap between us and other platforms. A complete web browser, an office suite and all other programs that are needed for everyday use. On the hardware side it would be nice to have some new and powerful accelerator boards for the classic and new more powerful and cheaper NG hardware. |

| FPGA powered accelerator for me, please.
I think it could be used for both 68k (200Mhz) and PPC(200Mhz) emulation, etc... (one at a time, ofcourse) _________________ - KimmoK // For freedom, for honor, for AMIGA // // Thing that I should find more time for: CC64 - 64bit Community Computer? |

| @Mikey_C I think that with the money that we have invested in our classic Amigas, it is a very interesting option, for me more interesting that a pegasos or SAM. I want G4 for my 4000T :)
