Hi

I have a BIG problem with my Algor USB Zorro-II card. Hope some one can help me here.

The problem is that Algor makes my A4000 freeze (not crash, but freeze and locks) 5-20min after boot. It has done this ever since I bought it. Some time the Amiga can't boot with the card in the Zorro slot (works again after cleaning the tin connectors with rubbing alcohol - this dos not happen very offen). Had the same problem with my old DraCo 060 computer (now sold).

My config:
Amiga 4000D (Commodore Rev B) motherboard with new batteri
Elbox PCI/Zorro-III daughterboard with 7 slots in a E/BOX tower (NO Mediator board).
Buster -11, 2MB chip (No Fast RAM on motherboard), Kickstart 3.1.
DCE CyberStormPPC 060@50MHz 604e@233MHz with 128MB@60ns RAM.
Phase5 CyberVisionPPC.
IDE has been terminated and HDD/DVD-ROM runs from SCSI cybppc.device.
In the Zorro slots are: Repulse, X-Surf (version 1) and Algor USB

USB connected: Logitech keyboard/mouse combo and a flash card reader.

I am running OS3.5 BB2, CybergraphX v4.3 and Poseidon v4.5 and other programs.

What I have tried with no succes

1: Removed all content from the Algor Flash... Did not help.

2: Testet the Algor in all the Zorro slots, and found that USB stick/SD card data is damaged if the Algor is NOT between the Repulse and X-Surf (? What is going on there?). But no matter what slot I installed the Algor in, the Amiga still freezes after a period.

3: Tried with ONLY the Algor in the Zorro bus... Did not help.

4: Tried with different Kickstart config in the Algor Flash (with "AlgorKick"). Can't say I tried all configurations, but did not help

I am going crazy here :-S Please help me.

UPDATE 1:

okay found out that the Algor might not be to blame here.
Taking the usb keyboard/mouse dongle out of the usb port, and running with Amiga keyboard and mouse, using the usb ports with card readers etc, works fine (no freezing).
BUT the Logitech combo set only made the Amiga freeze at random. Trying another brand Rapoo, makes hid class crach and makes the Amiga reboot forever ending in a software failure.

@QuikSanz

Did a full resolder of all smd chips on the board. Made no difference.
Might not be a hw error at all... Se my update.

@Micam

as my new pc does not have 2 ps2 sockets anymore for mouse and keyboard, I could not use my KVM switch anymore. I found a solution by using USB mice and keyboard connected to a hub. I can now change between Amiga and PC by simply putting the hub cable to the appropriate computer. What I found was that plugging between both computers did not work with every keyboard. I now have a mini cherry keyboard that works fine with my uAOne. So I found some cheap keyboards not to work perfect on Amiga. Maybe you have a similar problem.

@Micam

I have an Algor in my A3000T and I have experienced exactly the same thing. (In fact, if I boot Monkey Island 1 from floppies it crashes as soon as the game starts)

It seems to stem from the keyboard and mouse being added using AlgorKick... When they're not in there it all seems to be stable. It seems to work fine when they're loaded from the hdd within workbench... It seems to be worse with keyboards with media buttons on them... Cherry keyboards seem to work best for me

The issue seems to be with the USB devices rather than specifically the Algor card itself since using alternative keyboard/mouse combinations doesn't cause freezing but does result in system crashes when trying Rapoo brand peripherals. It might be worth checking for compatibility or driver issues between these USB devices and your Amiga setup, especially considering that removing all content from the Algor Flash didn't resolve any problems either.
