From the Hyperion website today:

Hyperion Entertainment CVBA is proud to provide the first free update of AmigaOS 3.2. It demonstrates our dedication to ensure that AmigaOS 3.2 is the most capable and most stable operating system ever for the 68K based Amigas. If you have do not already own a copy of AmigaOS 3.2, there is now even more reason to get one from your favourite dealer!

AmigaOS 3.2.1 fixes several bugs and additionally comes with new features. The team of developers and testers have worked ever since the release of AmigaOS 3.2 fixing bugs and implementing new features. They have read social platforms for user anecdotes, videos and reviews, and are excited by the positive reception and feedback.

The AmigaOS 3.2.1 update is available NOW.

While no new ROM images are provided, we do not suggest that you go buy new ROMs. If you are already using some kind of MapROM solution or if you or a friend have an EPROM burner, then go ahead. But it is possible that more ROM changes be rolled out in AmigaOS 3.2.2 so for everyone else we suggest that you use the file-based updating instead.

Here are the highlights of the new features and fixes of AmigaOS 3.2.1:

  • Fixes to almost every single gadget and image class
  • Fix to clipboard.device that since AmigaOS 3.1.4 would not handle clips above 16KB in some cases
  • Important fix to locale.library that would convert signed values to unsigned
  • New IconEdit with support for colorful icons (like the “GlowIcons”)
  • TextEdit has gained an ARexx port per open document
  • ShowConfig had its GUI reworked, and can now make reports in AmigaGuide format
  • The RAM disk linking feature have been changed a bit so it seems more like AmigaOS 3.1.4 while still being copy on read as in AmigaOS 3.2
  • Dropping files on console will now activate the console window
  • The screen will no longer remain black if you start up without any attached drive
  • Eject menu item in Workbench

@eliyahu

Have they fixed 3.2 product registration so we can actually download the patch?

Well done Hyperion and team for this new (free) update !

@Mobileconnect

I agree. I hope they fixed the reqistration process. I tried to register OS3.2 after I received it and my code was refused. At the time I just assumed they were not allowing registration of this product.

Perhaps I should try again.

@HyperionMP

If I buy it will you pay the developers a Christmas bonus? I guess pile driving Cloanto into the ground in the courts doesn't pay for itself but you'd think the people that do the work should get some payment rather than the lawyer vultures? For the rest of us there's already OS3.9!

So you let AmigaOS source code junkies hack away for the good of the community?

Merry Christmas 'ya filthy animal!

The ones developing "OS3.2" already knows perfectly well that they will never get paid but they do it anyway, and by doing so, they willingly support Hyperion's continued abuse by letting them publish and sell their work for profit at no cost, and in the same way they support Hyperion's effort to destroy Cloanto's efforts to unite the old Commodore/Amiga IP under one umbrella and potentially open source the OS.

They shouldn't get any bonus for this IMO.

Indeed, or the later remake (cleared of any IP litigation) based on the same original components but in some cases even in a later version, from *the official Amiga IP owner* with a few updated components in the shape of OS3.X, which is still published and available, indluding HW ROM's.

@eliyahu

Why no new Roms? I thought there were fairly substantial bugs in the Roms too?

I do wonder if Cloanto will do that?

I mean as far as I'm aware they own full rights to Commodore old media / adverts / video / manuals etc so why are these not up on there web site and up for fair use.

In fact they have done the opposite and asked sites and Youtube to take down videos / material like the above.

Dont get me wrong they have full rights to do that, but just feels odd from a company saying they want to do the opposite when they have full ownership.

Plus at least the community/developers are getting a product that most people seem to enjoy, again Cloanto perhaps could of made / allowed the same product to go ahead, I think both company have rights to OS3.1 source (correct me if Im wrong) maybe they where never approached, or never had the idea to do such a product which again is shame and in a completely idealistic world both company would just a allow project like this, that only befits the Amiga community to go ahead.

To my mind if 3.1.4, 3.2 and now 3.2.1 had any widespread market it would be in conjunction with Vampire bundles or with the full sized A500 Mini (if the first version is successful).

Since Apollo Team are not interested I can only guess that no commercial breakthrough in EOM and licensing will occur until after the legal case is finished. AROS, ApolloOS, MorphOS and possibly AmigaKit's System 54 (if they can pick away at the AmigaOS carcass and extract the elements that they need to hold it all together) will ultimately be the victors and AmigaOS will die a slow death if the status quo continues.

@amigang

Every time you whine about Cloanto asking to take down videos you forget to mention that you tried to monetize them....

I found a bug in ShowConfig - when clicking on a Memory line, the attributes are missing the final character (so you get PUBLI instead of PUBLIC etc).

It would be nice if SetPatch would patch the critical ROM bugs, rather than requiring the entire module is replaced - this would stop the annoying double-boot. Obviously on major component changes it wouldn't be possible, but 3.2 ROM with 3.2.1 OS shouldn't have any major changes that require module replacement, just bug fixes. So that critical graphics.library bug would be patched, but maybe the colour match stuff wouldn't. The user could decide if they want full module replacement - the OS should be able to run with a SetPatched Kickstart at least until 3.3.

Can I clarify whether OS3.2.1 has a built in PDF viewer? I thought it was mentioned in the AmiWest review of 3.2 but I haven't seen it documented anywhere!

I wonder if OS3 and OS4 will have an unified API, is this in the plans?

You forget to mention that I sorted this out with Cloanto and the strike where removed.

My basic point still stands.

@Fl@sh

Well OS4 does run 3.1 software.

But how about 68K compiled against the 3.2 NDK, does this software still runs fine under OS4.x ?

@BigD

There are new roms, they are included, contrary to what the press release says. You can burn your own. The press release does advise to wait though, as there will be more ROM changes in 3.2.2.

That's not how rom patches work though.

@bennymee

As I understand it OS3.2 mostly back port of AmigaOS4.1 sources code, should not be a problem, but might break if the OS4.1 version does not have stubs, or if new functions are introduced into the libraries, or if structs are extended not in the same way, they need to be careful not implement the same thing differently.
