And about video drivers fallback, consider the following situation:

you already have a video player (or any other application) running with PIP, and you want to play a new video.

What do you expect the *video* player to do?
A. Quit because it makes so much sense to quit when the user wants to play a video.
B. Fallback to another driver, so that the video player does what it's supposed to: playing the video.

IMHO it depends on the type of the user, different users would have different expectations:

- a "normal" user would expect to see the video, no matter what, and he would eventually decide to skip the video if it would be too slow. He would welcome a warning message though, indicating that the video is being replayed in a different "way" than usual. He probably would never find out that it is possible to send MPlayer a command line switch to disable this behavior in case he'd prefer it to quit every time.
- a (let's call him) "power" user would expect that the program does exactly what he "told" him, i.e. to replay a video using the default video driver, and that it doesn't make assumptions on how to replay it using a different driver. If the video couldn't be replayed, then an error window (or a message in the shell) should be shown to inform the user. He should then choose whenever to not replay the video, or to replay it using a driver he prefers (be it p96 without PIP or SDL), or to automatically switch to a different driver (if needed) via a command line switch he sends to MPlayer everytime he launches it.

In general, IMHO the problem with these types of assumptions is that, while at first they should always be welcomed, there are circumstances where they become annoying (e.g. from a normal user POV "Everytime I try to launch the video, while there's another one playing, I always have to wait some seconds, as it takes a while before it opens the window, and then I have to close the window, isn't there a way to disable this?" or "There's this handy switch which disables this feature, but everytime I update MPlayer I have always to remember to add it in the GUI.")

After thinking a bit about this I'm more inclined to not let MPlayer make this type of assumptions; comments are anyway welcomed, of course.

Yeah, right now worring with .flv. Already found how to fix it, through fix a bit ugly (but better have no crashes of course). I.e. that fix will just not free some pointers . That is veryvery small leak will be. Ugly, but not so noticable, and no crashes.

So for now just trying to understand what to do with all of this to make everything right.

Btw, can you also test if streaming works fine ? I.e. youtube and crap

You mean through clipdown/getvideo or just enter url address?

When using clipdown/getvideo video(youtube) is OK but crash when try to exit.

Hmm. I will see how piping works, since that's atypical use I suppose.

But plz, be sure that you use our version, not adnreas one. If youtube works, then it mean that Streaming also works (that good). But crash on exit its the same as for .flv crashes (will be fixed in one or another form)

I mean pipe as in PIPE: . But -cache doesn't seem to work, so piping is out of the question anyway. Also I discovered, that mms streams do not open. So mms and rtmpdump (via pipe) are both out for now.

@Thematic

I do not know should they works at all via PIPE: to be honest.

Also "cache" should works as well. How you test it ?

Did the same what you say works for old mplayer or not ? And how can i reproduce the problems (step by step guide will help a lot)

@mr2

Good to know

Out of sync because you not have overlay (imho), and crash are wellknown for now. Already have normal fix for generic version, but ugly fix for altivec one.

@all

We added p96 overlay support ! For now for comemand line (fab say that for gui need some changes) , but it works already. Big thanks going to Fab as usuall :) I mostly follow to him, and do changes as he say.

Anyway, there is some problem with overlay in the p96 drivers (we got that ones, from old afxgroup's version) : driver does not set proper module, and with some non multiple widths, it fail in a way to show "diagonal lines".

As i test with old afxgroup's mplayer - there is the same problem. I just trying to play 540x360 file, and it show diagonal lines in overlay. But as overlay works with DvPlayer fne, i assume that bug in the p96 dirver exactly.

@Afxgroup, Varthall
Can you plz comment on it ? Maybe it fixed by you somethere already , just not in public sources ?

@Tuxedo

Seems that Varthall solved it in some radical way (i see it on google-page of os4-mplayer) : he add some kind of assumtion and make change in mplayer.c file ! While that should be done in the libvo/p96_pip.c driver itself.

And in comment he write about "os4 overlay limitation", but as Fab explain to me, its not os4 overlay limitation, its how any overlay works, and its driver should worry about calculating some stuff. I.e. its normal by default have such problems with overlay.

Anyway , normal files are works fine in overlay. Fullscreen / window mode, etc.

So a bit more work and we can get mplayer with overlay :)

@kas1e

Well this problem of diagonal lines comes from the no standard size of the movie, not a multiple of 16 IIRC.

One day, I added an option in the mplayer gui to change the displayed size and the movie could be seen.
Today, I don't remember what I did so when I have this kind of movie, I change its size before wiewing using ffmpeg-gui.

Is that really a problem of overlay ? Is it so strict about dimensions of movies ?

From: I'm actually flying into a bug!

The overlay width problem can almost always be circumvented with -vf expand=x (where x is the next higher integer divisible by 16).

@kas1e

I put -cache 800 on mplayer command line. This enables (afxgroup) mplayer to open stdin (filename -). This instead says "Cache not responding!", twice.

Example: rtmpdump -r rtmp:some/somewhere -o - {pipe character here} mplayer -cache 800 -

About rtmp and mms, you should just try some video stream that works for your locale. NASA TV was mms, at least in the past.

edit: I found one video (out of not very many, yet) that worked without Grim Reaper including exit. It used mp3lib and ffodivx to decode it, and fourcc was DX50.
Also AHI gives much better quality here, than the SDL audio output I've had to put up with.

@Thematic

The overlay "problem" just has to be fixed properly in the p96pip video driver, like the cgx one does. These expand tricks are not very elegant.

As for rtmp, MPlayer actually has direct support for these (assuming it works in this port), so there's no need to pipe with rtmpdump.

Just tried it with clipdown and it worked great except for when the clip was done I got a DSI . Yes, latest version.

EDIT: ok now I saw that it was already mentioned. Sorry!
