I find it funny no one has mentioned Annotate yet, not even Deniil himself
It has some nice features. _________________ Common sense - So rare it's almost like a super power |

For me it has to be CygnusEd which I have been a happy user of since it was released on an Amiga cover disk many years ago.
I have since purchased both version 4 and version 5 I use my older copy of version 4 under winUAE on my laptop and I purchased version 5 to use OS4.1 on my sam440.
I also use Cubic IDE when I want to edit php and html pages as I find the highlighting and integrated help system to be very helpful and it works without problem under OS4. _________________ Sam440ep 667mhz, 512MB, 120GB 2.5" HD, OS4.1FE WinUae 3.0.0, OS 3.9, BB3, Catweasel MkIV Amiga 1200, Blizzard 040/40 (BlizzardPPC 060/200 with SCSI removed at present), mediatorSX pci, Voodoo3, PCI network card os 3.9BB2 4MB Minimig with ARM addon boar |

Even funnier that only one person has mentioned CubicIDE. I think this is a great program and it works very well under Os4.x |

True but its also a 68K application not an OS4 program and older versions of its installer crashed and failed to install under OS4.1 but that has now been fixed and the CD I purchased just before Christmas installs and runs nicely under OS4.1 on my sam440ep so I would recommend it as a first class programmers editor, but for me I just cant give up my editor of choice CygnusED.
Or in other words if you have the cash buy both _________________ Sam440ep 667mhz, 512MB, 120GB 2.5" HD, OS4.1FE WinUae 3.0.0, OS 3.9, BB3, Catweasel MkIV Amiga 1200, Blizzard 040/40 (BlizzardPPC 060/200 with SCSI removed at present), mediatorSX pci, Voodoo3, PCI network card os 3.9BB2 4MB Minimig with ARM addon boar |

DISCLAIMER: I'm repeating this suggestion only because it would be sad if you missed this only because it isn't famous - of course, feel free to ignore me.
I was a happy CygnusED user myself back when I was coding on my A1200. Then, when I switched to AOS4, CygnusED was no longer useable, so I had to look around for another editor. On Aminet I found FrexxEd: not only it's heavily inspired by CygnusEd, but it is also extremely powerful as it's script-driven a-la emacs (comes with tons of scripts that go from useful things like syntax-highlighting to fancy things like playing Tetris in the editor). On AOS4 it works perfectly (it never issues a Grim Reaper) and it's very fast. It's also totally free. If you have a few minutes of spare time, give it a try - it may be worth it

Notepad is a stupid program. If you edit a script, it rewrites notepad as the default tool back to to the script you just edited. How dumb it is that Amiga! Some better ones: http://www.onyxsoft.se/ I use 'ANN' - Annotate for python scripts. It's a 'NOT MUI' based text editor.
Shinkuro's 'NoWinED ' is a MUI-based TextEditor that can handle more files simultaneously... I've been using this text editor for SDLBasic lately.

Hm, for litterally ALL my coding purposes, I use NotePad. I don't think it's stupid. But, come to think of it, maybe using NotePad is the reason that I'm not that productive off late...

You're sure? Never ever noticed it and I'm using it since about december 2004.
In the merry days of my old A1200, which is still for sale btw, I used to like Blacks EDitor, BED in short. However it doesn't work under OS4.x so I abandoned it in favour of NotePad.

Then what about Cubic IDE? Is it worth the money? I just checked it out under AmiKit/WinUAE and looks pretty cool...
EDIT* OK, I know it's AOS3 or MorphOS only, off-the-topic then Well any opinions anyway? Last edited by DiskDoctor on 01-May-2009 at 09:09 PM.

What can I say... here it just works perfectly (and I always use it in window mode -> see screenshot).

And no problems with resizing of window ? Just try to make it smaller, or bigger. No problems ? (for me its start to be a bit madness and change size in some random way). |
No problem whatsoever - and I resize it all the time, even with multiple documents open (another screenshot). Maybe some some nasty FPL script gets launched at startup? Check you Startup drawer (I use: AsmMode.FPL, BlockErase.FPL, BookMark.FPL, ChangeCaseLetter.FPL, Cmode.FPL, DeleteSpacesEOL.FPL, saimoFaces.FPL - some of which been partly customized by me).

Just noticed the thread
I would also recommend Annotate as the best "simple but powerful" text editor for OS4. It is reaction based, but the main editors is one more simple (non RA) windows and have a lot of functions such as syntax highlighting, auto indentation, multiple clipboard support, MMB cut'n'paste for those used to Unix and much much more hidden in its menus and shortcuts, yet very plain and simple at first glance. _________________ - Don't get fooled by my avatar, I'm not like that (anymore, mostly... maybe only sometimes) > Amiga Classic and OS4 developer for OnyxSoft. |

I can't reproduce this. Which version of NotePad are you using, with which settings, and under which OS? How are you using it when this happens?

I too use se as my main editor. I've been using it ever since the OS2 days when I first bought SAS/C.
It has some issues with OS4: * it assumes a particular height of window border so chops off the bottom line of the border; * highlighting text with click 'n' drag sometimes gurus but can always be continued; * crashes on exit but I've found a work-around for that.
I like best the syntax highlighting and the automatic tab indenting after a left brace.
Its GUI is old and clunky but it works for me (hey, there are Some People who even use vi). I think I also asked SAS once long ago if they would release the sources. I even considered reverse-engineering it and rewriting it myself but gave up once I looked at the binary.

Happens here too, eidt any files with save with icons active and the icon will replaced by one with a new one with Motepad as the tool. But that is pretty much standard behaviour for any app when you use save with icons. Who saves scripts with icons?

Final Writer 97 can save documents in several formats, such as Final Writer, ASCII, RTF, and HTML.
It is a Word Processing program. I'm quite sure that the other word processing programs can also save documents in several formats, including their own native format.
