@nikosidis

Common, you know its all about CPU raw power, what else you can expect on 600-800 mhz machines ? Of course it will be slower in compare with 3ghz ones. And does not matter what OS is handle it. Through, will be very intresting to try AROS on peg2, to compare its speed with os4 and mos :)

@nikosidis

That is slightly unfair since AROS has the advantage of raw power.

Is it wellknown bug ?

not sure if it's well-known, but it's been there since at least 4.1u1, if not before. maybe i should report this via the hyperion support forum, but i don't know if it's an OS4 issue or how the screen is defined, or ... ?

Did that happens with any other programms ?

Dunno.. I think the easy reproducable case will be:

-- open screen with necessary p96 tags
-- open p96pip window on it
-- fill the backgorund by black color

With compositing enabled backgorund color still will be white, without - black (as it should). But to be sure 100%, need to check this out, and write that test-code.

i've only seen it with mplayer, both the OS4 version and your MUI version. dvplayer nor UAE exhibits this odd behavior. i think it has to do with transparency, actually. if you eliminate shadows on window edges, the issue goes away. it's almost like the black background is ignored and the alpha blend is against white.

if you look carefully you'll notice that, at the top, it isn't exactly white, but rather 'see-through' from the screen titlebar. i just wish there was a public bugzilla where i could file a bug report and help the developers out a bit more. you might try contacting stephen to see how he gets around the issue with dvplayer.

There is already this trouble with Mplayer froma Andrea. What is strange is that this phenome only occurs in 32 Bits, no problem in 16 Bits.

By the way , P96_PIP cannot be used with Altivec ?

Not that i want to be a drama-quine, but just to explain the next answer:

If someday hyperion will write me mail like "hey kas, we make you betatester", then i maybe will contact and with Stephen and maybe will worring about bugs in os4. But as they think i not good enough for them, then let's someone else worry about it. I am sure there plenty of others can help as well to fix bugs in os4 itself.

So, from my side i can only point out on the vo_p96pip.c file which i upload early, there is how screen and window opens, so any developer can create a test case, and report them on hp forum , or to bugzilla, or whatever.

One more bug where i am out of quiestion to make a test case. Hope some os4 betatester in some free weekend (someday) will found why that happens :)

I think it can, just for the overlay altivec-optimised scalling not so necessary as for example for cgx_wpa, and just not uses here. But i can be wrong of course (just imho)

@K-L

The PIP driver doesn't need swscaler, that's the reason why you don't see the altivec message.
When swscale is used, the log says if altivec is used or not. As for MPlayer itself, altivec usage is mentioned right after starting MPlayer (at least in command line mode with -v option).

@kas1e

you can maybe post that slowness on the Hyperion support forum?

I also post my benchmarks related to LoView speed(probably not related but...) under MOS against OS4 but noone replyed me...
So if we add another speed issue related to 2D dirver maybe...

@kas1e

If I remember correct PIP uses hardware scaling, number of pixel width and height is always the same if you stretch the window or shrink it, this is different to a normal window, if you like to adjust the aspect rate you need to keep this in mind.

Also the PIP is different in other ways as well it has one byte that defines the color intensity from black to white, and some other bytes that work like color wheal that defines the color by a special calculation.

@K-L

I don't think PIP should be effected by screen depth, as it paints in to a overlay, so the bit resolution should always be the same in the overlay.

@kas1e

I appreciate a lot all the work you put in projects for AmigaOS. But, even if we are off topic, I think your tone, too much aggresive sometimes (maybe a cultural diffence), must scare the whole AmigaOS 4 team.

IMHO, you should sometimes keep cooler than this when answering questions or submitting bugs reports.

As for this topic : asking people to flood Hyperion to make you a beta tester is, I think, one of the worst way to obtain what you want.

Be cooler, be smarter. You have some really great progamming skills and indeed you could be a real value for AmigaOS but just think about being less direct, more "rounded" because I don't realy think that the AmigaOS team wants someone telling them every day what to do and what they do wrong.

So I think you coul easily become a real Beta tester (since you're on top list), it's now just up to you to change (a little) your beahviour

A last thing : keep up the good work ! MUI-Mplayer is really great

@kas1e

Well in this case i have to agree with K-L :-/
Let's me explain: you are right in general but your "tone" sometimes are not so kind with others, once this isn't a problem at all in a general forum, when you are member of a party Team continuing to express in "such tone" can become a real problem for a Team (Lenin quote )

So plz be more kind and i'm sure they will include you to the official Team, i like to do some betatesting aswell and i'm plan to make a request for myself, when i do it i want to speak in your favor

Keep it easy Roman
