Thanks for the quick response. I will try it again from a shell.

Stephan:

I ran memhack from a shell. It loaded with no problems or any indication of any errors. However, Final Writer97 crashes when started.

All other programs work well with it.

Are others able to run FW97 with memhack?

Thanks for all the help.

I don't have an A1 ATM, so I can't test it myself. But when FW overwrites memory area it didn't allocate, it'll possibly never work stable.

Stephan:

MemPatch does work but also causes problems with IBrowse and some other software. I now use MemPatch but only when I need to use Final Writer97. FW97 seems stable under the patch though it did crash once while saving a PostScript print file.

I look forward to some kind of an official Hack that permits FW97 to run.

Thanks again for the quick response.

@xeron

Mempatch makes AssingManager to show a GR, DSI type. Ignoring it does the trick, though.

@srupprecht

Memhack doesn't allow ADPro 2.5.1 to load, at first it shows a GR, DSI type too, but ignoring it just brings a yellow recoverable alert and eventually the system gets blocked, needing a soft reboot.

@both

I can send you the logs, if needed.

BTW, thanks both for your efforts, providing a way to run old 68k while new ones are, hopefully, on the way is a Great Thing (tm)

Saluditos,

Ferrán.

Hi,

for those of you who the patch is working for...

Are you using a regular FW97 installation or do you have it patched with Martin Berndt's speedpatches (found on aminet)

CU,
Mario

Mario:

I am using the last version of Final Writer97 without any patches. Works well with MemPatch.

Still looking for an updated MemHack.

Talk to you later.

@mpiva

I can confirm that Final Writer 97 launches ok with mempatch in place, but I may have something else going on here with my installation. As long as I don't make a new document or modify and existing one, seems to work fine. I can quit and relaunch ok several times. As soon as I save a change to a document, the fun starts. I can quit ok but if I relaunch Final Writer 97 it crashes. IBrowse crashes as well after I modify a document with Final Writer 97. Not sure if that is just coincidence.

Final Writer 97 seems to function without issues until saving changes, which then causes instability in both the application and IBrowse. This suggests a potential conflict or bug related to document modifications within Final Writer 97 when running on mempatched systems. Further investigation is needed to determine if this behavior persists across different versions of Final Writer and whether it's an isolated incident or part of larger compatibility issues with the operating system in question at that time, Windows XP SP2.
