Well, cache works fine with DVD, network and files on MorphOS. As for reading std input, i don't see too much point in that, but it's a matter of enabling termios, anyway.

afxgroup's version SVN-r29532-4.2.3 (summer reloaded).
With overlay this version exits cleanly. Using SDL it DSI's on exit (known problem). Earlier version MPlayer Epiphany does not exhibit this error with exit when using SDL (also known).
I suspect those of you reporting errors on exit are using it without overlay.

It appears that afxgroup's SVN-r29532 exits cleanly with overlay but has issues when exiting without it, especially on SDL. Earlier versions like MPlayer Epiphany don't have this problem. Those reporting errors likely aren't using the overlay feature. The AMC version also seems to be related to these problems and is discussed in linked issue descriptions.
