| Does anyone know if FDI disk images are supported in the OS4 version on E-UAE? And is there an FDI image somewhere that I can download and try this out?
Specifically I am trying to run the QDOS4Amiga program - an emulator for the Sinclair QL. It runs perfectly except that I can't use it for anything without QL floppies. I've tried creating a "simple" dump of a disk (pretty much like an ADF file but only 720k long) but that isn't recognised by QDOS. I was wondering if I might have more success if I created an FDI image...

According to floppies.txt E-UAE supports the following diskimage formats: ADF DMS FDI (http://www.oldskool.org/disk2fdi) IPF
IIRC you need more than one floppy drive in order to create FDI images though.

You also need a PC, and I haven't got one!
So I was thinking that maybe I could create an FDI file myself by reading the specification and understanding it. But that's a lot of hard work. So I thought I'd check first if FDI actually was supported. It doesn't come up in the file mask of the file requester.
Does anyone have an FDI file that I could try to check this out? Everything on the net seems to be ADF. |

Can disk images be installed to a hard drive for use outside of emulation
I have DMS images of DPaint 5 and would like to run it in OS4 (not in emulation)
Is this at all possible? _________________ 1 AmigaOne G4XE (OS4 Pre-Release Update4) Minimig Sam440ep + OS4.1FE Sam460cr + OS4.1FE |

I suppose it would also help to know if DPain 5 actually works with OS4, does anyone know _________________ 1 AmigaOne G4XE (OS4 Pre-Release Update4) Minimig Sam440ep + OS4.1FE Sam460cr + OS4.1FE |

It won't work. At least not unless you're running OS4 on a classic (BPPC/CSPPC). DPaint needs an AGA screenmode to work (i.e. no chunky). If you try to run DPaint with a gfxcard screenmode it will crash. Also it makes use of the Amiga's blitter for drawing etc., which isn't available on A1 either, so if you want to run this program you need to use E-UAE... |

Well there is UnADF, which can be used to extract files from adf disk images. For dms there is xdms, which can do the same for dms files, as well as generate adf or adz diskimages from dms...
Also there is as someone mentioned already diskimage.device which can be used to mount as disk several types of diskimage: adf/adz, iso, etc.Last edited by salass00 on 04-Jul-2006 at 05:49 AM.

I don't think that FDI or IPF are the right formats for your purpose. You should rather use extended ADF files. E-UAE can handle extended ADF files for sure. You can use RawRead (Command line utility) or TSGUI to create extended ADF files from your QDOS disks on an Amiga. You can even use TSGUI and CrossDOS inside E-UAE to write your 720K images to extended ADF files (no real Amiga needed for that).
Bye, Thomas

Over a year later... and I've actually tried this out!
Thomas, you were of course exactly right. Extended ADF files are the files to use for this. I can now read and write QL disk files. Thank you. |

If you're still interested (although it appears you have already solved your problem) there are a few .fdi test files at:
http://www.oldskool.org/disk2fdi/support.html
The FDI 2.0 file format specs (PDF format) are there also. Last edited by salass00 on 13-Aug-2007 at 05:54 PM.

Yes. Extended ADF files proved to be a much better solution for me. However, I did download one of those FDI files and E-UAE can indeed read it. A file of over 6MB for just one disk!
Thanks.

UnADF and xdms are tools for extracting files; diskimage.device allows various image formats to be mounted. All serve purposes beyond emulation. |
