| Seriously looking into a new Sam440EP/AmigaOS4.1 kit within the next 2 months. One consideration for me is multiple display support. I'm a big fan of multiple displays... would be very hard to go back to a single display now. So, I'm a bit hesitant to take up Sam440ep/AmigaOS4.1 without good, hassle-free multi-display support (dual display at a minimum). So, what support is provided out of the box?
And I wonder if this product could be an answer (albeit a little expensive):
The Matrox TripleHead2Go Digital Edition. http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/press/guides/th2go/ http://techgage.com/article/matrox_triplehead2go_digital_edition/
Since this is a hardware solution, I think it would work for AmigaOS4.1. That is, if OS4.1 supports these ultra-wide formats, the TH2G should split the signal just fine.

Not sure about SAM and out-of-the-box dual or tripple display. It only has one single-head gfx chip on board as I know. I don't know how it was with adding another gfx card in the PCI slot, if it took over the on board gfx or if they could work simultaneously (as a dual head, not stretched desktop).
About the Matrox tripple card; There is no problem for AmigaOS (any AmigaOS) to display any screen size from 320x200 to at least 32768x32768 if you have enough gfx memory. So 4096x1024 or whatever this card likes is no problem, except perhaps memory wise, and maybe scanrate-wise unless the card allows a virtual tripple scanrate of like 900MHz as a setting, which it probably does and then divides this itself to feed its screens.
The real problem though is drivers! Amiga has no Matrox driver and may never have if I understand the situation correctly. Or was that Nvidia drivers..?
Someone can probably explan this all in more detail. _________________ - Don't get fooled by my avatar, I'm not like that (anymore, mostly... maybe only sometimes) > Amiga Classic and OS4 developer for OnyxSoft. |

It's not a graphics card, it's a virtual monitor. Just connect it via DVI(-D) and Robert is your mothers brother. _________________ This weeks pet peeve: Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). Sometimes I don't even know what people mean. |

As I understand TH2G, it just looks like a monitor and so no Matrox driver necessary. Which, IMO, is the beauty of the thing.Last edited by jingof on 28-Oct-2008 at 08:57 AM. Last edited by jingof on 28-Oct-2008 at 08:56 AM.

Oh, cool! So it's an external thing dividing a DVI output for 3 monitors, or is it an actual superwide monitor? (No I haven't looked at the actual links yet... ) _________________ - Don't get fooled by my avatar, I'm not like that (anymore, mostly... maybe only sometimes) > Amiga Classic and OS4 developer for OnyxSoft. |

The Matrox TripleHead2Go Digital Edition offers a hardware solution that might be compatible with AmigaOS4.1 for multiple display setups, assuming it can handle wide aspect ratio signals which is typically supported by modern OSs including newer versions of AmigaOS.
However, you should verify the compatibility between Matrox TripleHead2Go and your specific setup before making a purchase decision since hardware support may vary. |
