Does anybody have a good enough relationship with ssolie to convince him to take the amigaos.net site hostage? That would be a good start.

afaik, Steve was given a press release to read with virtually no notice.

I'd need to hear more to believe that the Friedens and ssolie had any part in "deciding to announce". Sorry.

im sorry but i fail to recognize common or differentiated responsibilities here. as long an someone doesnt obviously distance himself from the issue and is not ready to explain himself im not going into detail how much he was involved, for me he is 100%. if the involved choose to keep silent about all that, its their choice and their own their fault, they have to be aware.

If it wasnt for the "BBRV folks" as you guys put it there would be no

1. Amiga NG Period (os4 or morphos) "BBRV" financed Amiga Tech during bankrupcty and paid Petro and others salaries

2. There would be no more morphos (same reason as 1 they put a lot of money into it at one stage and lets not forget the FREE ODW workstations)

There is ALOT of things most of you dont know about these situations. And the few handful of people that DO know do not post online about it thats for sure.

A lot of us knew this all along. Its not a matter of it not coming out. Its a matter of holding accountable the people saying it was and exists.

Here is some logic

A. I have a 3 million dollar yacht.
B. I dont believe you show it to me?

A. Oh its docked alright and ready to sail! But I cant show you the boat...
B. Why not?
A. Its a secret.
B. Well where is this boat docked?
A. I cant tell you that either
B. *sigh* ok well what manufacturer is the boat?
A. Hahah I wont tell you that either

So, does person B believe person A?

And for anyone calling me some sort of "troll" all ANYONE has to do is post just 1 pic of this netbook working. Just 1. Its pretty obvious it doesnt exist and never did as for sure we would have seen something about it.

And btw someone saying they know someone who said they saw it working has almost no weight to the argument that it is real.

I do not understand people either... for what "hope"? There are countless options available for mobile solutions, be it PPC with MorphOS or X86 with AROS (ARM now heavy in development). So what do the people wait for?

DO people actually wait, or are they just happy to have something to argue over?

I think (and im one of this) amigans are waiting for
first Warp3d/gallium (and all the graphic mem sow in the os not limited to 256mb)
second Memory protection
third multi core Os support
and after 64bit Os....

I wouldn't consider Warp3D worth much. At least it shouldn't be on high priority, but "well, maybe later" list. Why?

As I see it, Warp3D software can be split in following categories:
1)Open source or "still maintained" closed source OpenGL software, that uses Warp3D "through" MiniGL.
2)Abandoned software using Warp3D either directly or through MiniGL.
3)Abandoned software using Warp3D either directly or through MiniGL, which would have "other issues" (direct hardware access) even if there is working Warp3D.
4)Native OS4 software using Warp3D directly.

I guess 1) is quite big category. Most (all?) software belonging to this group should be easy to recompile for OpenGL support based on Gallium.

Category 2) is indeed problematic. The most important program I think I could put into this category is Wipeout 2097. Of course there are Heretic 2, Shogo and Descent Freespace too, and it's up to Hyperion to decide whether those are category 2 or 1. Recompiling all of them might be easier than doing Warp3D drivers for all kinds of new hardware. And as for Freespace, there's open source engine based on Freespace 2 (so it's better than first one) that can run the data files from the first game. IIRC already ported to MorphOS, so should be possible on OS4 too, if not already done.

Category 3) doesn't matter. Even if drivers were there, the programs wouldn't work anyway.

I don't know, but I'd assume category 4) to be rather small, considering that Warp3D was announced dead / "backwards compatibility only" somewhat early in OS4 development. Why wouldn't anyone rather use the OFFICIAL 3D api of the OS, which in this case is OpenGL?

I "feel" like a amigan too and am not waiting for it. Some of the limits you mention are not existing on other "Amiga" platforms, MP and Multicore is not implemented on any platform. There is already 64bit on AROS (at least as nightly build). But I do not think that all these things would change much. What could you do better than now when you would have all these things (except MESA that would make it easier to port Games)? More than one core only exists on X1000 and if there will be new computers from Acube/a-eon with more than one core is right now pure speculation (and if they would propably be expensive). Memory protection, it seems a kind of holy grail in the community right now, if we have it Amiga will be in the first line again and challenging the other OSs and so on. I do not believe that. Finally Software (application and games) decides what people can do with a computer so getting more software is much more important. More communication to the outside, better support of developers and finally affordable hardware (to attract more users) is much more important than all the features you mention. I try to do exact that on the AROS platform (of course with my limited time and skills ) but it is the only way to go. Make attractive offerings to developers so that they become interested again. Systems that cost thousands of Euros will not do that, a cheap entry solution would be the way to go and cheap means for me competitive compared to other offerings and not (again) underpowered and overprized as a kind of geek device.

Gallium wont work with 7xxx and 9xxx cards so a Warp3D type layer to support older cards may be needed.

MiniGL is VERY outdated / incomplete compared to modern OpenGL (even if we forget about lack of shader support). In any case, there definitely should be something better than what MiniGL offers.

Also, how much does this really matter? Certain A1 boards have onboard GPU, and iirc one PCI slot, where you could install a better one. Are there many "non-upgradeable" supported systems?
