@djrikki

No. A couple of yeas back I would have been interested in a PA6T system, but today the price/performance ratio just don't cut it. IMHO it is way overpriced, for 800 (compleet system) I might give it a go, but even then it would be a bulky box. I prefer small computers.

@djrikki

Nope. I already have OS4 hardware that I am barely using. The next Amiga-related hardware I'm gonna buy will be a Natami.

IMHO the XMOS stuff is just a cool bonus (which got blown out of all proportion to what A-Eon intended), and the most important thing about the X1000 is it's CPU...

Eh, I'm not so sure, especially since we don't have any details on this CPU. The XMOS stuff is what distinguishes the X1000 from the crowd as a true platform in its own right. OK, I'll freely admit that we don't yet know if its going to actually be useful, but its got some of us who ought to know better quite interested, mainly because we simply don't know how far it could go. There's really only one way to find out.

Part of why I'm actually here is because the concept of parallel processing using the 'Transputer-like' XMOS cores is interesting in its own right. Without it, the X1000 and the wider Amiga scene would be considerably less interesting.

The question should read, "If you're buying a computer, will it be an X1000?"

To me this doesn't make sense.

No one's going to decide to buy a computer and if so consider an X1000. If they decide to buy a computer (you used a generic term) most likely it will be a PC.

But the release of an Amiga machine such as the X1000 would spark interest. If the X1000 wasn't announced I wouldn't consider buying it. I'm quite happy with my A1-XE and wouldn't buy a Sam just because I decided to buy a computer. There has to be a reason to buy, People buy machines like the X1000 because they want to. Not because it was time for new computer and the X1000 became the default.

@djrikki

Given that the X1000 will cost £1500-2000, no.

I already have a Sam-flex which, and not really sure there would be much benefit in upgrading. Even if I sold the Sam I would still need another £1000 or so to get the X1000.

So unless there is some amazing new software or other yet to be revealed secret it will definately be a no. I would rather keep the Sam and spend the money on a Windows 7 laptop and a holiday .

I may be tempted by a Sam460 though for a bit more power to speed up processor intensive tasks.

@djrikki

Yes I sold my AmigaOne-XE a couple months ago, to have some money towards the X1000.

I hope it is released soonish, I really miss using AmigaOS 4.1.

@djrikki

What do you hope to learn here?

Since beta testers had to sign a contract and send funds, you would expect someone who has already paid to answer "yes" to the question "are you buying it".
I would think that if you had excluded beta testers from the poll by indicating so in your original question, you might have discovered a bit more here.

Beats reading another BS Commodore AUS thread.

Nah in all serious... why nitpick the Poll question? Its just not necessary.

No, an nice 10 inch Android tablet with multi-touch is what I'd like in my Christmas stocking this year. I might even buy one of those Big Ben Aussie netbooks in a C64 case if the sell for US$300 or so.

Thats after you've bought the latest Doctor Who box-set right? Man, hate waiting for the next series. Well in the meantime at least we can enjoy Merlin - thoroughly enjoying that.

From the Slashdot poll disclaimers:
Quote:

* Don't complain about lack of options. You've got to pick a few when you do multiple choice. Those are the breaks.
* Feel free to suggest poll ideas if you're feeling creative. I'd strongly suggest reading the past polls first.
* This whole thing is wildly inaccurate. Rounding errors, ballot stuffers, dynamic IPs, firewalls. If you're using these numbers to do anything important, you're insane.

Wow, 137 "yes" votes, wonder if thats a good indication of beta tester sigh-ups?

I've not voted as like a few others I'm still in the undecided camp. If it had been a question on if I was planning on getting a OS4 machine then the answer would be yes, it either going to be the x1000 or sam460 the main thing stopping me is money for deciding for now I just waiting seeing what happens.

@djrikki

I selected 'No' but what I really mean is 'Hell No'.

The question might be asked simply, but it is a very loaded question. Regardless, the answer to it is as simple as either Yes or No. Take away the storries, the elaborations, the ideals, and the excuses, and you're left with either a Yes, I'm buying one, and No, I'm not.

Something tells me that no matter how great ART had been, you would say the same thing.
