Unlike the A1X1K campaign? I seem to remember the hype of partial mobo photos and "What is X" a good year before the system was shipped to the beta testers.

I think the market for a NG portable of any type is at least as good as for any of the other models. I've been moving my micro around almost every day. If there were a decent portable, equivalent to a micro, which is pretty limited, I might buy it, even though I already have two NG Amiga's. If it were equivalent to a micro, I'd probably pay the same, which was a lot. It seems like we never get the right product when it's needed. Isn't anyone paying attention?

@NutsAboutAmiga

I don't think they lied but it was just ill concieved to announce it when they did. I agree that they should just tell us that the project is canned. 400Mhz + PowerVR netbook is past it sell by date anyway, even for us Amiga fans.

AmigaONE X1000 is really Trevor's project. I'm sure you read his blog and are aware that he wants to be as open as possible where he can.
Also remember that they also kept quiet about the SOC for long while, even though most realized it was PA6T.

What surprises me about this is the fact that they (Hyperion) said at the time of announcement they had a working functional netbook

The exact quote at AmiWest 2011:

Quote:
As it stands right now, the netbook actually boots into workbench...and is running happily.

That's obviously a far cry from "functional".

Trevor made that clear as well for the Micro Mart May issue:

Quote:
After a detailed cost analysis - hardware engineering, porting the OS, driver development, licence fees for AmigaOS and branding, importing the hardware

Those costs above far exceed the cost of the netbook obviously, by a factor of 4x or more, imo.

@Spirantho (from another thread on the same topic)

Quote:
When Hyperion started work on it they obviously thought it was reasonable to develop for, and that it would cost a reasonable amount.

HyperionMP said in another thread on the same topic:

Quote:
Driver development for all supported hardware has, a rule, been the task of the hardware manufacturer, not Hyperion Entertainment.

Perhaps Hyperion just had to guess when they threw out the netbook price at Amiwest, due that those costs and time to completion are not under their pervue.

(01) Do you plan or consider further extensions to the SAM series?

We have a detailed business and development plan for the coming years.

(02) Have you considered a Sam440ep laptop and would this be feasible?

We have many options for current and future products. Laptop is one of these.

Ben was Trevor's partner at that point in time. A-EON and Hyperion would have been considered connected the hip with Ben being a partner in both companies. I some how doubt if it was Trevor alone in A-EON, that he would have chosen a EOL CPU because that is such a poor business decision.

My point to Spirantho is that Ben has strong links to those companies that boast about future products long before they are released, if ever. This 400MHz Limebook is a prime example of such deeds.

I still think it was either a marketing stunt to announce something or just very amateurish. Probably a mixture of both.

I thought you were saying something about releasing pictures. Do you really have a point or will you just keep revising the supposed point every time it gets challenged?

I seem to recall the complete opposite to this. I am fairly sure that Trevor has stated many times over than Ben has nothing to do with A-EON at all. Unless you can back that statement up, it is just FUD / misinformation and does A-EON Technology Ltd a huge disservice.

That's funny because that seems to be the tactic of OS4 users every time their "conventional wisdom" gets challenged. Laptop cancelled? Silly person, it was never a laptop, it was a netbook, so it can't be cancelled because it wasn't a laptop to begin with! etc.

But is was a Netbook. Anyhow it doesn't look like it's happening so it's a fairly pointless discussion. Mind you I wouldn't want to estimate the percentage of discussions on here that are pointless.

@Rob

Every netbook is a laptop. Netbook is just a sub-class of notebook/laptop which denotes small laptops (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netbook).
Thing is: the failing is not about semantics, the failing is actually the non delivery of OS4 enabled Limebooks.

Yep. A £500 OS4 enabled Limebook is better than no product and a broken promise. Expensive hardware is par for the course, however broken promises are plain unprofessional.

what? linking a-eon with hyperion is huge disservice? perhaps. but it was an officially stated fact once upon a time. mr. hermans was initilally trevors partner until they apparently split and trevor picked up partnership with amigakit instead. please, correct me if im wrong.

also blending out documented facts and calling fud on those who mention it is probably even worse disservice on community than spreading fud, that may be contradicted.

The company formation also included Anthony Moorley.

And again, Trevor stated the project was not his idea.

Source

This should make sense given that Ben, Anthony, and Trevor were involved at the time.

Now? True. Ditto for Tony last I heard.

Please, don't try to rewrite history in a 1984 fashion. Even without leaving this very site you can find this thread:
http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=30985&forum=42

I'll quote the most relevant part for you:
Quote:
This information below is received from Trevor Dickinson /tomazkid:

[...]

Q. Who is A-EON Technology and what relationship does it have with Hyperion Entertainment?

A. A-EON is independent company established to finance the development of new high specification AmigaOne hardware. The principals include Trevor Dickinson, Tony Moorley and Ben Hermans. A-EON is licensing the AmigaOne name, AmigaOS and related Amiga trademarks from Hyperion-Entertainment.

Kind regards,
Andrea

Simple matter of past and present tense I believe.

"has" vs "had"
