The Efika is also a toy, it has where limited system memory, OWB system memory requirements are 90mb per page, you will run out memory before you can blink your eyes,

While 128MB RAM is not much these days you can run OWB on Efika quite well. It does not need 90MB per page :) And of course you can run Lite version to save some RAM.

Maybe he refers to the os4 version. :)
But in practice, a new page "needs" an ARGB buffer of the content size (which could be avoided in the tab case, actually), and then the webpage rendering memory requirement itself, which heavily depends on the webpage (but most pages don't need more than 10MB).
end of off-topic. :) Last edited by Fab on 23-Mar-2009 at 01:14 PM.

| I think the Efika seems okej, its like tre times chiper than sam.
Then there is also the iMica system, specaly built for Aros/Icaros, witch goes for 275 pounds. You find more info here: http://clusteruk.dns2go.com

The best option is the iMica from ClusterUK. You won't be able to run AmigaOS 4.1, though, but you'll get a good "replacement". I don't know, however, if Steve is still shipping oversea and outside Europe. |

| If you want the original AmigaOS you have to go for AmigaOS4. Best option is currently the SAM Flex 800mhz motherboard with a Radeon 9250 gfx card. AmigaOS4.1 is the most advanced incarnation of AmiaOS and IMHO usable for most everyday tasks now. At least I use my A1 with OS4.1 everday and more users are very much welcome
I you would like to take a look at AmigaOS like alternatives there are also MorphOS and AROS. I don't know the state of morphOS and what HW is currently available but AROS runs on X86 HW, so take a look at what is supported. Both systems might be worth a look, if you can find someone to let you play with a MorphOS box.

go for the pegasus II system and then get radion 9250...
Fine though the Pegasos 2 hardware is, you cannot actually BUY it anywhere as it is no longer sold, and is rarer than some models of Amiga on eBay (to date I have seen only 3 Pegasos 2 systems sold on eBay).
If you can get your hands on one, then great, otherwise your choice is much more limited (well limited to SAMs at least). |
@retro: Acknowledged. The availability of the Pegasus II system and Radion 9250 has indeed become quite rare in recent times. I'll keep that in mind for future discussions on retro systems! Thanks, Steve! |
