In such a small niche computer market you would think there wouldnt be a need for "secret" anything..

How about we get some rep from some amiga company to announce a roadmap for os4 or some new exciting features down the pipeline to get the community motivated and keep their amigas?

@Shufflepuck

I was thinking of something like that too

http://www.cynapse.com/downloads/cynin-community-edition

Cyn.in Disk Support

/pure uninformed speculation mode on:

I suspect this may allow simultaneous HDD access to both PA-Semi cores in a pseudo SMP environment where two operating systems are running, each on a core of the X1000...

Unlikely, unless there's a two character space between the 'D' and the 'isk' of 'Disk,' and the other letters are all veeery thin.
Look at the letters which are seen to be protruding above the top of the tab in front, and the spacing between them - the number of letters can fairly accurately be inferred (assuming Trevor hasn't been playing with font widths to mislead us).

Also, it's definitely Cyr - you can make out the termination of the curve of the letter 'r' (it's definitely not an 'n').

The legal side prevents complete transparency. Simple as that.

You'll have to settle for the blog for now, since that's the closest to what you hope to see.

I'm not usually puzzled by your postings number6, but that one has me foxed (and intrigued). What is the legal aspect preventing transparency?

@Boot_WB & klx300r

I don't think it's fair to discuss it further here.

Who owns what? is more appropriate.

Basically this is a hobby to be enjoyed and plenty of folks do just that and will hopefully continue to do so.

But at the same time, one has to recognize the impediments to having the open communication that others desire. Hence my response to @realize.

we do know what's planned; we just don't have a rough estimate as to when it will be delivered. for example hyperion announced at amiwest in 2010 the following features coming:

1. updated printing architecture (possibly based on CUPS)
2. support to take advantage of multiple cores
3. a complete openGL implementation
4. ability to recognize more than 2GB of memory
5. workbench improvements of some variety

we all assumed that these items would be forthcoming in OS4.2, but only the AOS development team knows for sure. additionally over the past few months several initiatives have been cemented after being long requested, such as:

1. an official hyperion blog
2. an official support mechanism (the hyperion fora)
3. a web presence for amigaOS
4. better documentation for both users and developers (the wiki)

based on reactions in the past year -- mostly from people who do not use and have no interest in amigaOS, by the way -- it seems hyperion and its partners have 'clammed up' for a while, only announcing things when they're ready. this is a just a guess on my part, but it certainly seems to fit circumstances.

OT: you really should try and make it to amiwest this year. it's worth the expense.

@eliyahu

is it not much more seriously to announce something if you have it (or at least when it is almost finished). After announcing it (including dates) it makes not a good impression if you cannot deliver in time or even not at all. Better not promising something.

@eliyahu,
I would like to announce that, in a move many will find dramatic, I am also making a set of updates to OS4. I have no firm dates yet, but I assure you I am working on the following:

1. updated printing architecture (possibly based on CUPS)
2. support to take advantage of multiple cores
3. a complete openGL implementation
4. ability to recognize more than 2GB of memory
5. workbench improvements of some variety

In addition to these I am also working on an OS4 compatible PPC netbook, and an emulator which magically emulates any processor and runs any OS. Since I realize anybody could just make sh*t like this up, my proof that I am 100% serious is: I will make a pre-announcement in two weeks!

@number6,

Maybe "emulator" isn't the right term. It will expand algorythmic boundaries though, I assure you. Also there will be a bounty!
