That should work fine. It's impossible to tell whether the memory is configured as one bank or two without testing, unless someone has the same card here.

128MB is usually more than adequate.

I want to be able to exploit the whole 256 MB of video memory.

Does it make sense to ask the manufacturer (Diamond in this case)?
Supposing they reply for such things ...
